Default USB converter devices - warning

I really wanted to use my passthrough at my favorite TV watching chair and in my car, so I purchased an AC/USB converter and a car USB converter from HDMI cables, DVI cables, HDMI wall plates and HDMI switches. (known as ebuyHD.com) because they were REALLY CHEAP ($2.82 & 1.78); and now I know why. The AC/USB converter never worked, and the car converter just fried my favorite atomizer from EcigMall. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for. I got another AC/USB converter from Radio Shack for about $15.00 and it works great. If you know of a car/USB that works well please let me know.

Was your passthrough homemade by any chance?

So far I haven't had any luck with the USB converters. I've given up on finding one and I'm just going to buy me a kensington battery pack.

Lightbulb I will let you know

I will be reviewing the New Puresmoker.com passthrough and using it with a Targus Kit(battery pack, car charger,ac charger, case, and other goodies) i found on a website. So that might be an option. Other than that, any converter under the 5$ mark...you get what you pay for

I use a Coby CA81 for AC power source with passthroughs, and find it works better than plugging the passthrough into the computer or a hub. Amazon sells them for $10 -$15 (the price floats up and down). For the car I would stick with something like the Kensington power pack.

Darkmail - no, the passthrough was not home made, it's a really good one from ecigmall.

Mr-glass - thanks for the tip on a car converter, I just ordered it. I'm also going to look into the Kensington battery pack.

Thanks to all for your help and suggestions.

I got a car adapter for 1¢ via Amazon and it actually works fine, it's only rated at 800ma so I don't trust it. I use my Kensington plugged into the adapter then run my pass through from that.

My cell phone charger (razr2) has a UBS port built into it... works perfectly. 2 birds.... one stone.

I've been using HDMI USB power sources since I first started vaping. Haven't had a problem yet. In fact I just completed a 5 hour road trip using my $1 USB Car Charger. Worked great.

Higher cost doesn't necessarily mean quality. Defective items can be purchased in any price range.
