I believe VG is Veggie Glycerin, just a different term for plain old Glycerin. It's a little sweeter and thicker than PG (Propylene glycol).

As far as the calories.. given that it's atomized.. and that you're inhaling it versus consuming it.. you're not actually absorbing any calories, afaik.
I prefer VG over PG for the vapor production.. I add a few mL's of it to my PG juices
