Default Q: Safely using a pass-through at home

Call me anal, though I don't like the idea of putting something in my mouth that is connected to an AC outlet. Likewise computers.

So are there PCC-like charging units (perhaps more capability than a PCC) that are intended for disconnecting from the outlet while vaping with the pass through?

    Thanks,
    Dave W.

    Dear Anal,

You can get any of the "iphone/ipod extender packs" and use those. Lemme get a link:

Well, call me what you will, then, but I don't think a passthrough is right for you.

What difference do you think using some sort of battery pack will make (besides the obvious bonus of portability)? In terms of safety, actually, I would bet that your PCs USB outlet would be your best bet.

Someone used to make a passthrough with a built in, in-line battery....basicly the USB would charge the battery and you could either use it directly connected to the USB outlet or unplugged with the built in battery....i don't remember who made that though....

    What's with the negative vibes?

Well if I remember my electricity classes, 1-2 amps can kill you. I saw some chargers that are rated at 6 amps. I suppose not at one time. I would assume the charger and/or wire would catch on fire trying to deliver one amp. Do any of these things have built-in circuit breakers/fuses?

I need an expert to conclude something from this

    ave W.

    It's DC not AC.

Have you ever stuck a 9v battery on your tongue too see if it was still good? It's about half of that voltage.

A USB port on a computer runs at 1/2 an amp. A Powerpack will likely run at 1 to 1.5 amps. A computer is probably your best bet. Eastmall sells passthroughs that have a 10440 batter inline so you can unplug and still vape.

Thanks for the tip on the 500 mA being OK. I found this AC adapter whose USB power output is max 6 VDC, fused at 500 mA:

Amazon.com: Universal Travel AC Wall Adapter USB Charger: Electronics

    Experts opinion?

    Thanks,
    Dave

I have edited my original reply to make what I was shooting for more obvious.

EDIT: And to add some value to this post, honestly, vapping straight from the USB port on the computer is less voltage and arguably safer than doing it from an external USB port battery. But you are talking about such small differences. The only scenario where you'd be safer would be if lighting struck the pole outside your house in a storm, traveled your lines, fried your computer, then struck you through your pass-through. Thing is, if you were already in front of the computer, your chances still aren't significantly reduced that you wouldn't be struck anyway. If the lighting didn't care about the half mile of air between it and your pole, it's not going to care about the few feet of air between you and your computer.

There are better reasons to get the battery pack. One, the hit will be better because atomizers seem to like an amp or more. Plus you'll have some borg-like portability. Good for home, not so good for the grocery store. A lot of people seem to really love the Kensington variant on the external USB power supply. Hope this helps.

I think if it's fused at 500ma you'll be blowing the fuse.
I think you need 1 amp or better. My Keninsgton charger is rated at 1 amp and it works fine. My Ipod charger is also rated at 1 amp and works fine with my USB mods.
