Default Copper Desoldering Braid as a Cart filler?

Has anyone tried using desoldering braid as a cart filler?

It seems like it might do the trick really well seeing as it is typically copper and intended to wick solder in a fluid state. Kinda like steel wool without the fire or small particle hazards.

Was thinking about ordering some from dealextreme.com to give it a whirl, just wondering if anyone else had tried it.

DealExtreme: $2.63 Soldering Remover Ball (Large)

Note that some desoldering braid has been treated with flux to help the solder flow onto it, not sure of the exact composition of flux but it would probably be a good idea to look for flux free if anyone decides to try it out.

Sea Braid Copper Desoldering Braid from Easy Braid Co.

(not 100% sure if the DX stuff is -but willing to check it out for 3$)

The copper desoldering braid I got from DX does have flux in it. Not sure how one could be sure to get some that is flux free?

The second link is to flux free braid.

Was your DX stuff the ball type I linked to or the actual braid?

The ball of stuff is for cleaning the soldering iron tip. The braid says it's coated to prevent oxidation, with what it doesn't say.
I saw a copper scrubber (ball of stuff) just today in the dollar store for $1.
