Lightbulb A very weird (but interesting) thought just occurred to me...

We all know that nicotine is a poison.

Yet, in very small doses, it seems to give us pleasure.

I was thinking about this, and I started to wonder... What other poisons out there could provide some sort of benefit if delivered in very small doses?

Not that *I* will be the one trying anything. Nor do I suggest anyone else do so, either. It is just an interesting question... one to which we may never have answers. People would have to potentially die to find out if there are any other "beneficial" poisons out there.

We'll just have to get by with the known ones, I suppose.

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME, OR ANYWHERE.

Curare, quinine, and opium immediately come to mind for medical purposes... there are many, many beneficial drugs derived from poisons.

MSG also

dont forget alcohol and caffeine

Tricyclics such as prescription antidepressants like desipramine (Norpramin and Pertofrane)

diethyl ether, chloroform, benzene. Narcotic: in large quantities produces euphoria, stupor, or coma. Up the dose a little bit more, add death to that list.

Barbiturates and Opioids

5HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) is an over the counter product (naturally occurring amino acid) that you can buy anywhere. It is, like the rest of "herbs", not needed for FDA approval. I hear if you take many of these you can feel a sense of euphoria. However, if you take 1 to 2 daily you will enhance your memory, central nervous system, curb appetite, etc.

It's good to use as part of a daily dietary supplement.
