How I got rid of my burnt atomizer taste

Say what? Those bastards burn! :P Or at least turn brown and leave a bad taste when they touch the coil. I dont think the wicks are unburnable.

The fibers themselves don't burn, but can accumulate residue remaining after your e-liquid is atomized. This accumulation gets heated over and over again, all the while getting a new supply of gunk from the liquid you vape. This is what burns, the fibers underneath it remain unchanged.

When you yanked the fibers out, you also took with them the burned residue, or knocked it loose from the coil. So, yes, taking the fibers out might reduce or eliminate the burnt taste. But it's not the fibers but the gunk on them.

IF (IF!) you can find a method that successfully cleans the gunk (which I have), you lose the burnt taste and a careful inspection of the fibers will show them to be as white, or nearly so, as new. I have two nearly 6 month-old atomizers that after cleaning have white fiber everywhere. The melting temperature of the silicon dioxide fibers is 1650 degrees C, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silicon_dioxide

Since we atomize the PG and VG at less than 400 degrees, we never come close to melting or burning silicon dioxide.

Well I was smoking my 510 and it got really hot. After that I had this really weird 'burned fish' taste. I was going to buy a new atomizer but I read somewhere to 'dry burn' the atomizer so I did it, but it didn't work. What I actually did was dry burn while dunking the atomizer in a cup of water, then shake out all the water, burn until coil is red and repeat several times.

After all that I did one last dry burn until the coil was red. I dripped some liquid into the atomizer and topped off a new cart and the bad taste is gone.

Looks like I won't have to get a new atomizer yet...

I don't like to bump old posts, but this is awesome. I tried your method, and no burnt taste. Hope it lasts.

I submerged my RN4081 atty past the coil and let it burn for 5 seconds, blew it out, dipped and another 5 seconds, blew it out, did it 5 times, and then let it dry...

Primed it with a needle to make sure the wick was saturated, primed the bridge, tossed on a cart and vaped. No burnt taste.

Wonder how many times I can do this before they die... You are my hero.
