I've tried cleaning 2 similarly affected atomizers with no success. As a last ditch effort, I'm doing dry burns which improves the vapor production slightly with each burn, but I imagine eventually I'll burn out a wire.

Edit-- measured resistance on both attys is 2.3 ohms, the same as the brand new one I just got.
I never had any luck trying to burn off the gunk once it had already built up on the coil, in fact I found that I could hold the power on for ages with the side of the atty getting too hot to touch....and yet I would still never be able to see the coil glowing red and worst of all it usually ended up with a dead atty. That had been the main reason I had thought this was a pretty hopeless idea at first.

I would only recommend doing the dry burn if you are going to do it daily from new and the gunk isn't given a chance to build up in the first place, otherwise it's probably far better to stick with alcohol or cola baths or something..... as long as I do it every day it only ever takes a couple of seconds to see it glowing red and I stop burning straight away once I can see it glowing.

I have to admit it is a bit of a leap of faith to do the dry burn 'before' the atties performance is diminishing but by the time I tried this method, I was so fed up with never getting any longer than two weeks out of an atty anyway that I thought 'what the heck!' now my atties are all lasting well over two weeks and best of all with no loss of performance at all.

If you are already getting months out of an atty ....please 'don't' bother trying doing dry burns ..just carry on doing whatever it is you are already doing!!

My latest atty is now on day 11 and still performing just as good as new and even that is better than anything I had before I tried this.

do you prime the atty with a few drops after the dry burn?

I think I just killed at atty that last about 2 week. give vapour but very little and occasionally have a bad taste. I try the soda method and the core is still black.

So I pop in the only spare i had and i'm only going to use carts from now. I want to keep it as a fog machine as long as possible. right now the primer liquid is off but its still is having trouble wicking 3/4 full carts. seeing that its so new should i reprime it after dry burn or just dry burn than pop in brand new full cart?

I'm doing a daily dry burn on a new atty now just to see.

I've had surprising results with a variation of a post in another thread using baking soda and vinegar:

    1) Put a small amount, I dunno maybe 1cc? of baking soda into the troubled atty, so that it's down by where the atty action takes place (the coil I suppose). Drop a few drops of vinegar into the same spot. It will bubble and react. Keep dropping vinegar until it no longer reacts. Sometimes, when you drop in vinegar, close off the holes of the atty on both ends. This will force the reaction to exit from the air holes.

    2) Turn atty upside down and blow out.

    3) Repeat steps 1 and 2

    4) Put atty(s) in shot glass and cover in isopropyl alcohol for 15 min.

    5) Blow vinegar out of atty(s) and put them in front of a fan, preferably one with warm air like the back of my computer for 12 hours (probably takes less time to dry it)

    -----------------------------------------------

I tried this yesterday on the 2 troubled attys. After trying it out, it took a few minutes to get a decent vapor, then I tried a short burn with my passthru and I saw cherry red! Unbelievable. I stopped after that as I wasn't yet getting the throat hit of the new atty but I'm hopeful. Maybe one more treatment of vinegar and baking soda.

I'm still doing a daily 8 second burn on two of attys using high voltage (5V) since last Friday and they still going strong. Good as new each morning.

Let's see how long they last but so far I'm impressed by the tech.

I use an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner and I have been using the same 801 atty for about 2 months without fail or vapor reduction. Either I'm lucky or the cleaner works very well.

Haven't "cleaned" an atty in 3 months..just dry burn on the Prodigy 5V 4 secs, sometimes twice in a row until those "fumes" dissipate..all going perfectly!..
But when I put the same atty on a regular batt..it barely works!?..maybe my atties work now only on 5V as getting old?

i did the dry burn for few days now and i have to say that while it seems to be a good way to let your atties perform every day like new this metod works good with some attys type and less good for others (i'm talking about penstyle attys here).
My 801 TW atty is doing well with daily dry burn but my be112 seems to suffer more the dry burn, it really takes an awful bad taste after every dry burn and it's pretty hard to get that taste away.
I suspect be112s run more hot than other brands, that is why i like them a lot (warmer vapor, more present throat hit).

surbitonPete, did you try dry burn with be112's? if so, did it work?

Hi Ournature, no I have only done this with penstyle atties, I have never had a BE112 so there could be a difference.
