After a short time of glowing orange hot, it was clean - not far off new looking!

I describe this more here: Cleaning the Atomiser

In fact while doing these experiments I often run my 901 coil yellow hot for extended periods while fiddling with the electronics (say 20 seconds), a number of times and it didn't fail.

There are obviously limits and variations though. In short, I recommend only battery power (not direct passthroughs), looking for the glow and doing daily from new, just as Pete says.

If doing this as a last resort, I recommend a soak first; vinegar or lemon juice being good choices, or cola; say 24 hours. In these cases, the deposit will be too great to burn-off (primarily carbon to CO2) but will flake off instead.

A new atty might fail straight off with a dry burn, but might not have lasted long anyway in this case. If it's not new, the risk is far higher.

There's still more to learn about this.
Hey hi Kin ...yes if people read your thread it might help. I don't think I am as good at explaining things as you are. . It isn't the heat itself that kills the coils.

Three days now and my atomizer shows no signs of slowing down, in fact tonight I felt like its kicking out even more than usual (maybe that's how long they take to truly break in?).

I feel like surbitonPete just cracked the code for atomizers or something. This is something anyone can do with a manual PV right out of the box! I'm never going back to automatic batteries, and those 5-packs of atomizers should last me months.

Pete, you are the man! Thanks again for posting this.

Lol well three days is a bit early yet .... but I have to say until I tried this idea I was lucky to get a week with an atty working perfectly......the one I am using now has lasted 35 days today and is still working like new!! I am sure it will probably die soon but after all my experiences with atties anything over two weeks is a miracle. Despite everyone talking about their methods making atties last for many months they never worked for me and my dream had just been to have one that worked perfectly even for two weeks.

I think trog is the only manufacturer that advises people not to expect much more than two weeks from an atty..nearly all the others blame user error on not getting atties to last for many months.

For what its worth non of my atty's has died on me. 5 of them are 2 months old, and the newest one close to two weeks (all various models). I drip straight on the atty on all cigs and if they feel like they are starting to clog a quick little blow and dry off with a paper towel at the battery end, seems to do the trick. I do occasionally clean them in water or vodka but dont like the taste when they are completely clean. Maybe I've just been lucky

I am confused are you saying that you have been vaping with 7 different atties for 10 months and 2 weeks and you haven't had a dead atty yet? or are you saying you have been vaping with 7 different atties for two months and two weeks and haven't had a dead one yet?? ie only actually about 2 weeks of vaping for each individual atty. When I say mine has lasted for 35 days it's been the 'only' atty I have used for 35 days and it has vaporized over 105 ml of juice.

Still using only one of my cleaned attys and still performing well, still glows red in a second or 2 with a dry burn, so far so good.

I got my son started on the ecigs (model 510) a couple of weeks after I started and his experience it completly different than mine. 3 months now and he has had no atty failures, doesn't do any cleaning, dry burns, etc. and says his perform as good as new.

This is a puzzling phenomena as to why some people have to clean and some don't. Maybe this falls in to the realm of the paranormal and an exorcist is in order?

lmao I keep saying anyone who has atties that last for months has supernatural powers.

Just read this thread, been using the same atty about a week and half in a JS. It was not giving the same vaper as when I first put it so I popped out the cart, gave it about a 2 or 3 second burn, popped the cart back in and it's working like it was new again. Thanx.

Still doing this since Tuesday, no reduction in vapor yet.

edit: Did get a really bad burnt taste after doing it today, filled it up with vodka and shook it around. Seemed to take care of it mostly, took another 30 minutes of vaping for it to taste 100% clean again.
