usb vs. power adapter
FIRST OF ALL; I AM NOT VERY GOOD AT EXPLAINING THINGS IN DETAIL.
for me, the choice was clear. i do not have a computer near my x-ray unit at the factory and did not want to spend alot of money on components, so, i used a 1300mah variable power adapter. i gutted a 901 battery, saving only the casing and brass end. i popped the center out of the brass and removed the rubber insulator. i then soldered a wire (long enough to go all the way through the casing, with an inch to spare) to the center piece, and after cooling, slid the rubber back on. then, i soldered the negative wire from the adapter to the inside edge of the outer brass. i seated the inner brass piece back into the outer brass piece and superglued it back into the casing. i then soldered the positive wire to one leg of a small flat pressure switch, i bought at radio shack. then soldered the positive wire from the adapter, to the opposite leg of the switch and mounted it to the lower side of the casing (after putting on 2 layers of electrical tape, so it wouldn't short out). i secured everything using electrical tape and heat shrink casings. it's not pretty, by any means (other than the huge amount of vapor it produces).
it has worked flawlessly and much better than the normal 901 batteries, for nearly a month, now. i just plug it in to the outlet at my unit or in the wall at home and set it on 4.5v's.
it was very cheap and easy to make, considering i have about a half dozen power adapters, just laying in a box in the basement, not being used. the only thing i had to spend any money on, was the switch, which was in a bag of 4, for $2.xx. the battery was already junk.
THIS WAS THE PERFECT SOLUTION FOR ME.

Great Idea thanks - I whipped one of these up with one of the bizzzion wall warts I got laying around - I actually went with a nokia travel charger - you know the ones with the flip down plug in connections - Can never have enough "backup" power sources. I works well enough - rated at only 600 mah don't know how long it will last - sat it by my bed in and old ashtray - ( Had to clean that disgusting stink hole out about 4 days after I start vapin. What a stinky habit)

I'm also not very keen on plugging cigs into my expensive computer so I just bought this thing from Deal Extreme:
DealExtreme: $4.30 1000mA USB AC Adapter (European)
It's available with US, UK and European plug and very cheap. The advantage is that you can use existing USB batteries with it and don't need to make your own.

I agree. I've mentioned before that USB spec. says 5V/500mA. Atomizers will pull more than this even when they're not faulty.

I didn't see where they sold the US version.

i had bought this adapter for another item (weather radio) that the power adapter went bad on. i got variable voltage so i could use it on other electronics, if needed. well, i got a new weather radio, so this went in a box with others. the others were fixed mah and voltage and i'm not sure what i can get away with, on these atomizers. this solved that problem, other than burning up my first atomizer experimenting with the voltage setting. i know not to go higher than 4.5v's, now, but the vapor sure poured out at 9v's drawing on 1300mah before the atom fried. lol.
i know what you mean about the ashtrays. ours are all cleaned up and put away in a box. it's unreal what i can smell, now. all the food tastes different, too.

the usb adapter and/or plug is what i am avoiding. i did not want to have to buy different components to use a usb plug. i just used a regular universal ac power adapter and hard wired it with a switch. something similar to this; Amazon.com: PowerLine 0900-74 600mA Universal Adapter: Home Improvement but, mine is 1300mah.

Thanks yo han. I'm going to keep an eye on this. I have a usb wall charger now but it is 500mah....and it's not working for my usb ecig. Maybe that extra power would do it? I've still got some experimenting to do but I'm storing this in my favorites to go back to if I need. Again, thanks!

Reason: to change you to yo...lol

500mAh is only half the power you need. That's just not going to work and you could also melt your charger if it's not protected.
