    Default EVO USB charging tip

It seems that laptops don't always have enough oomph to fully charge EVO batteries. I've had them plugged in for hours and hours but the charged light never comes on (the LED tip of the battery for EVOs). I've tried 3 EVO batteries and two laptops and they all have the same problem. They still charge but I cannot tell how much.

After reading another post about USB pass-throughs being more powerful from the mains, I tried recharging an EVO via a USB hub which happened to have a separate mains adaptor (and without the hub even being plugged into any computer). This worked fine; with all three batteries the LED did finally come on after a while.

I can't say if USB ports on desktop computers are okay 'cos I don't have one but if, like me, you only have laptops, then I recommend getting some kind of mains powered USB adaptor.

You Are 100% Correct! But It Does Not Matter What Brand or Model!

You should always use the USB from a Powered USB Unit (not a laptop USB Port), A Battery Power Pack or An AC to DC USB Adapter (like MP3 Style, try to use one with a minimum of 750 mAh Output).

You can buy a MP3 / Cell Phone AC to DC USB Adapter almost any where, Look for This Output Rating: 4.2 to 5 Volt with 1000 Mah is Really the perfect one to get. If it does not have ratings listed an/or not the same as above do not buy it or you may cook your device..

Especially with Laptops! I know they can handle it but I don't suggest it, laptops are not designed (some may argue it) to really charge any device through their USB Ports, they are designed to power the device as needed.

Trying To Charge from a Laptop is Using Constant Power Through the USB Which You Should Not Do to the type of power it is using, it will be Fine if you add a Powered USB To The Laptop Port and Use a USB Port That is Off the Powered USB Unit.

This will apply to Charging, Using a USB ByPass Model's and / or Using a USB Power Type Cord.

As for a Standard Computer I Prefer to Use A Powered Adapter Port as Well.

    Hope This Helps

    Uhm...

I charge things through my laptop USB port ALL THE TIME. Have been for years.

It charges my evo batteries just fine (and in just the same amount of time as if I hook the USB charger up to a mains -> usb converter) with the lights coming on and everything.

I also charge my zune through USB on a regular basis.

    And my cell phone...every day.

    So...like...there...

Hmm, that's interesting, I guess it's just some types of laptops then (and in my case both of mine - Samsung & Sony).

Thanks to this thread - forum/tips-tricks/6973-charge-m401-dse901-charger.html - I'm now using my 901 charger for the EVO as well.

yep, i charge my evo and pretty much all my other e-cigs using my laptop without any problems either!

evo takes 15 mins for the led to light up and remain solid to indicate a full charge

Like I Said, I Just Don't Suggest It.. Read What I Said Please.

Your Putting an unnecessary load on your laptop... Laptops have small power supplies, you will BUM Out IF IT Goes and Possibly Take Your Data With It.

Is It Worth $10.00 For An AC to DC USB Power Adapter or Risking Your Laptop?

Make Your Educated Decision To Decide Based On Cost vs Loss.

Ya Some People Go For Years Using It For Power, Some People Go Just Once....

I have worked on & repaired blown laptops hundreds of times, don't matter to me.

No Doubt it works, It's Your Computer & Your Decision.

Again It Is Just My Opinion.

    Same results, here.

Fully dead to fully charged in 15-20 mins, every time.

    Works perfectly.

I have an evo usb charger as well and the led light never comes on as suggested in the manual, could this be why Im not getting a good throat hit, battery not being fully charged and therefore Im not getting good performance form my cig?
