I'm a newbie, and I make no claims to being a vaping expert or a chemist, but I do sewing, and I also spent half of my lifetime selling carpeting (I'm not proud - it paid the bills), so I do know something about fibers. I've read this whole thread, and wondered if some posters were interchanging some of the terms for "polyester" or "poly" or "batting" with "wool". Some of the earlier posts referred to wool ... even though they seemed to be talking about the same poly pillow stuffing material. When I say wool, I mean actual, natural sheep's wool. Johnson Creek and some others say that their cartridges have "wool" filling. The material in those carts - and expecially my RN4072 (DSE801) pen-style carts - certainly seem to look and absorb differently than the material in the carts that came with my 4081 super-mini starter kit (yes, I have both already). Does anyone replace the stuffing in their carts with real wool?

I have never used wool...strictly polyester, here.

And, yes, people use the terms "wool" and "polyester" interchangeably.

    Terraphon,

I appreciate your reply. I read some of those first posts in this thread, and then re-read them, and that's what it seemed to me. It's all about communication, isn't it?

Then there's the UK vs. US thing. Batting: some probably wondered if others were confusing the subject with baseball, or ... I had this mental image of somone pounding a wad of polyester to a mangled pulp. LOL

I pulled a couple different bags of poly fiber down from my closet shelf, and they both felt silky, like someone else mentioned ... sorry that I'm not remembering names yet. I think that I'll stop at the local fabric/craft store, and poke a finger into the corner of a bag or two before I make a new purchase.

Thanks again, and btw, I love your kitty avatar! Halloween, was it?

I used both the poly batting and the "Fluval" brand fish filter and as many others have also found.. teh fluval seems to leave less threads stuck on the atomizer because it is not "loose" like the poly batting. Also easier to fit in.

I'm not having a lot of luck re-stuffing my 510 carts with the poly batting. I feel like I'm either putting in too little or too much. Still experimenting but not really wanting to waste juice either.

This is a major "trial and error" process...I'm still trying to figure out how much poly to use in my 510, too...

Yes, it can be a bit of a juice waster but once you figure it out, you're set

i have only seen one post so far where someone said that they tried hemp fibers and it worked

i have a ball of cooking or craft work type twine that is made of hemp and i took a strand of it and unraveled it - takes a bit of time twisting and straightening the strands

what i have then is a fluffy soft string of hundreds of very fine fibers - almost cottony soft but strong

i just take that and fold it several times until i get the density that i want and cut it to the right length

i haven't tried the poly fill or fluval - maybe someone that has already done those could also try the hemp and compare any difference

if you get hemp twine then make sure it is natural and not waxed or colored
i think you can get it as some cooking or craft shops or even walmart or department stores - maybe in the sewing or craft section

Is the poly batting from Wal-Mart that you use called Morning Glory??
