I drilled out an 801 and a 901 cart with a 1/16th bit. Makes the draw much easier, and I'm sure some of you may have noticed, but in case you didn't; with the newer batteries, sometimes a vacuum would be created with your initial draw and the battery would either stay on or light up again when you were done until the vacuum was broken through the cart filler material. That no longer happens on my 801 - never was a real problem with my 901.

I've also purchased some polyester and stainless steel mesh from smallparts.com as I'm looking to make a conical or interwoven cart material, say a layer of stainless mesh and a layer of poly mesh, one on top of the other, then rolled to fit the cart. We'll see how it goes.

I don't have a brown plastic cup that the filler sits in. The black tip and the cup the filler sits in is all one piece. If I take the filler out I can see the part that it sits on inside the cart, but it's all one piece. I can't pull any of it apart. So I just put a tiny pinhole on that inside part. Is that right?

I tried this mod, and have added pictures to my profile's album to show some detail.

I've been using my 901 since March 19 (prior to that it was LSMFT and roll-your-own since 1977). Every couple of sessions I would add two drops onto the polyester wick in the cartridge. The throat hit was good for several drags, but then tailed off a bit. Since the mod, the throat hit has been consistently strong.

As seen in the picture, the hole is made in the side of the cart. Don't pierce the wall at the bottom of the wick chamber. It separates the liquid from the inhalation channels and would make getting the liquid in your mouth a near certainty. It's 16mm from the mouth-end of the cart to the center of the hole. The hole is about 1mm in diameter, or a bit smaller. A heated sewing needle does the trick. Also, make sure the hole is aligned with the flat of the mouthpiece. Ninety degrees to either side and you'll pierce the inhalation chambers instead.

Lastly, cover the hole with your finger if you find the draw isn't activating the battery.

    Good luck.

The pictures are very good, Spakk. I wonder how long it will be before the manufacturers start to make them with the hole in?

I guess I'm not familiar with that type. For some reason I can't see the pics people are talking about, but all I did was put a tiny hole at the bottom center of the cup that the filler material sits in. The filler rests against the hole, but no juice comes out the hole.

Thanx Spakk for the pics. I been having the same problems with my 510 and
I thought it was the poly insert not holding the juice very well. I think I will try this..tired of refilling all day.

Ok, I see the pics now. Is that the cart type most people have for the 901? All mine have a removable brown cup that holds the filler. I'm glad mine are they way they are, as I'm not too fond of the way that hole looks. It's hidden on my type, but serves the same basic function.

I wonder which is better, or if it makes a difference?

for the 901's poking a hole is a good start but then you need to pull the brown filler holder out and chop off the back with a sharp knife...
Now the heat from the atomizer is pulled through the wadding instead of over it.
