I believe using a straw is a much better way to achieve better juice flow out of the cart. Better because although it uses the same mechanism - allowing air to flow in or out of the cart bottom - does so without the possibility of leakage as with the hole.

The post hilights ease of refilling but it is the ability to get more juice from the cart so that it lasts longer and does not need to be refilled/topped up so often is the main advantage.

I was drilling a hole in my 510 and a couple of pieces came out. It appears that they are already doing this. If you pop off the end cap on the mouthpiece there's a hole in the second plastic cap.
In case someone with a 510 sees this...if you pop the end cap (mouthpiece end) off a 510 cart (checked several, from diff vendors), it does indeed look like a hole is there on the 'inner cart.' However, shine a light through it - there's a nub over it on the inside, the hole does *not* go all the way through. Actually, the hole you see is actually a duplicate of the endcap 'disk' for the mouthpiece..not sure why, guess it's a final attempt to not get any moisture back into your mouth...so, basically, two round disks with holes can be removed from the mouthpiece end of a 510 cart, but there is no hole piercing the inner cart compartment from factory.

I have tried the straw method with different straws and it didn't do a thing for me. So for most people try the straw method first and if it works for you then that is great....if it doesn't try the hole method.

Well, I drilled a hole (smallest bit that I have with a pin vise - probably thinner than a regular safety pin) on my 2 piece 901 cart, on the bottom of the brown piece. 1st attempt was an utter failure, because I drilled the hole little too big. 2nd one was a little better - but the juice was still leaking out when I was refilling. I also tried to block the leakage by putting small Tbag filler on the bottom of the cup, but didn't do much either. Perhaps, 100% pg based liquid is too thin... maybe VG might be better for these hole mods, as they are thicker and less likely to run down.

Since I carry around the carts in my pocket shirts, I don't really want anything to leak out... so I had to toss them. It did hold more liquid w/o waiting time... but more important issue for me is the bounciness of the filler itself. Tea bags didn't work for me as it just gunked down... so I'm willing to find some pillow fillers for it, or fluval or what not.

It just seems like the cartridge filler life is just very short. If I get a day or two out of it, it seems like the filler loses its potential. Perhaps I'm burning little too much with my SD, but for me that's the definite case.

I don't mind topping off often, but only when I can get out some good hits out of it, maybe 10-20 times, not 4-5 times. 4 drops of juice really should do it, but for some great reason, it doesn't.
