Subject: Poly-fill 100% premium polyester fiberfill
I purchased a bag of your Faifield poly-fill 100% premium polyester fiberfill. I noticed that it has a Notice that states This article meets the flammability requirements of California Bureau of Furnishings Technical Bulletin 117. Care should be exercised near open flame or with burning cigarettes. I was wondering if that means you have added a chemical flame retardent or some other chemical? Please let me know as I am looking for fill without added chemicals. E-mail me a response at
Thank You,
Jason:
Please help me here. I've got some brain fog from lupus going on right now so I want to make sure I am understanding this correctly, the Polyfill "100% premium polyester fiberfill" like found at Walmart IS safe to use in our cartridges and won't flame up or anything?
My 12yo told me what she sees in the inside of the Dura-C attys. She described what sounds like a multi-strand bare wire with the sheath cut off turned in a U with the ends going into the bottom of the atty where it probably connects to a contact that hits the battery and the pass-thru bat, to heat the attys.
When I add the filler and fill it with e-liquid, I always tuck the filler just a bit under the edge of the top of the cartridge so it will sit deep enough not to burn on what I think is the depth from where the wires in the atty sit. It also helps me not to over-fill. I hate that liquidy sound until it vapes out...
One more thing, I have fillers from 3 extra carts I bought after the Dura-C came in. I got two packs of 5 blanks of flat type & one pack of 5 carts of round. I prefer the flat carts. I've been washing the filler with hot/warm but not scalding hot water to remove the oils and I've been cleaning the cartridges using detergent but I put them in a linen garter bag (don't ask
) so they don't get lost or fall out as this little bag has small holes but it's small. It could hold maybe 10 carts total at one time but I wash them 5 at a time when I can. I've wondered if perhaps if I run my dishwasher on a cycle when I use only no-heat water/no-heat dry if perhaps I could wash them in the dishwasher in the baggie. I have a bin with a lid just for small stuff. It works great for washing those eco sponges from Crate and Barrel. It also keeps the water from pushing the sponge out as it has the lid to hold it in the little square area. It's sort of made for small stuff like glass tag rings that are washable and I've even washed linen napkin holders in it, not my silver ones but the everyday ones I do but I wash them on a no-heat wash/no-heat dry cycle too. This basket is part of the silverware basket.
What do you think? Also, can you verify I am hearing you right on the poly-fill? I just don't trust my own comprehension tonight. Please forgive me.

Thank You,
I just wanted to thank you for this reply. I was looking for exactly this information, as I bought polyfill with the same confusing label from Hobby Lobby. This eases my concerns.

You are correct on your understanding of the fiber fill. It will not flame up and you will not have any problem with melting as long as you keep your atty moist. However I am not so sure I would use any detergents to clean cart filling. Detergents use some pretty dangerous caustic acid which in the form of vapor can be very harmful. I used to work with detergents and caustic acid. A bag of fill is very cheap and lasts allong time so I would recommend just replacing the fill. I also rinse with water whenever changing flavor.

I wouldn't use any poly fill from California- The fire thing means it is treated (with who know what) so it won't catch fire so easilly......you don't want to vape fire retardant chemicals....
and the Poly fill or Original filler is horrible compared to PTB
Search on this forum for - Lypton Pyramid Tea Bags - and learn to use them.

Since I can't as yet start a new post this seems like the best place to ask my question.
As the proud new owner of a manual 510, seeing all this talk about cartridge filler...
How do you know when it is time to change out the cartridge filler?
I know it seems that most of you mod them just for the sake of modding them bt how do you know when they need to be changed?

For me, i check the cart when the vapor is running low or when i start to get a couple of pulls in a row that dont quite taste right. When i pull off the cart and see that the top of the filler material looks dry (white) then I would take it out with tweezers or a paper clip. If there looks like there is enough liquid on the other end i flip it over and replace then continue to vape till its all gone.

Just a thought
Has anyone tried a filter from a filter cigarette?

I wouldn't want to try that, the filters are treated with all kinds of stuff, would rather smoke an non-filtered analog than a filtered one.
While filters supposedly make cigarettes safer, it's often best to check what is in the filter before smoking. Several ingredients, such as a form of asbestos used in the 1950s, eventually turn out to be more harmful than smoking an unfiltered cigarette could ever be
