you can purchase them in any well stocked smoke shop. I have tried it, I cut them in half long ways, fluffed them up a bit. Just wondered if anyone else has tried that.

Hello everyone...I am just starting down this e-cig path and I started reading about replenishing my own carts and I came to this thread.
I was curious, everyone keeps calling them "wicks" and it got me wondering, what about the material you find in Kerosene lamps? Has anyone thought about buying one of those wicks and splicing it down to size and using that as a wick? Curious to see what folks think.

Rice Fabric
I haven't tried the PTB yet b/c only one store carries them here and I've not picked them up yet, but I was thinking about filler materials in the middle of the night last night - yep, I'm obsesssed
- and another idea came to mind....Minute Rice comes in boil-in-bags that are also made of polyethylene terephthalate, which I believe is the same 'food safe fabric' as PTB.
I took one of these bags and clipped off a corner so I had a little pouch and put some water in it. It dripped slowly at the corner but otherwise didn't leak.
Would this be an option for those who don't have the PTB available? Has anyone tried this or is there any reason not to try it?
Who know, we may need this...the FDA might rule out tea someday..lol

One of the good things about the PTB is not just the material but the size. You dont have to measure or anything. Just cut and go. Just make sure that when you are looking at some people do mods you are using the same brand of PTB. I made that mistake, explained a little in this video.

Tea Bag
Just used a tea bag that I had in my kitchen cabinet, tore off the sides, ripped it in half and rolled it up. Then I put about 6 drops in my 510 cart and inserted the rolled up half tea bag. Mashed it down with a paper clip to absorb the liquid and then added a couple more drops which I was suprised to see it absorb that as well. Just started pulling on it and I'm very happy. Will see how long it goes before I have to refill or replace. Thanks for all the info fellow vapors.

Rho, your timing couldn't have been better...I happened to find some PTB's today in my local grocery store - they didn't carry them last week - and I bought a box....your video was exactly what I needed to see and you saved me from having to search for instructions.
Since I hadn't actually seen a PTB before, I was thinking that the minute rice was the same fabric. Now that I know it's different, I guess I'll be leaving the rice in the bag....
Your video was great...very clear and nice close ups. BTW, after it stops looking like an "R" it looks like a tiny lounge chair.
Thanks much for your help!

Please check out the second video. I found a better way to do it. The "R/ lounge chair" plug gave me more information when I was done with it.

Very cool, I guess what I was trying to accomplish with the PTB mods is a little more than absorbing the liquid. Believe me I have tried a bunch of stuff that absorbed the liquid... Ok I admit it, I used a cut up (new) shoe lace. It absorbed the juice alright but I soon realized that I was not going to be able to vape the 12 or so drops I put in it. It just soaked it up but bit all of it went to the atty. some did but I have never experienced such a short cart life. luckily i had a syringe and was able to get some back. My new mod attempts to get all the juice, even when the cart starts running low, to the atty bridge.

I liked the 'R' mod a lot...can't wait to try this one.
One question just to make sure I do this right - we didn't want the polyfil touching the atty b/c of the burnt taste, fibers, etc., but with the PTB you're placing it so it is always in direct contact with the atty which is ok b/c it doesn't melt, right?
I'm not sure what kind of cell phone you have, but it takes great videos. iphone, maybe?
Keep these coming Rho....they're really helping!
