Jim, like you said, I'm sure this is in response to the Canaidian Ban in general.
I really think it will be hard for them to enforce it!

Jim, I've wondered why they were EVER allowed. The prohibition is no surprise. Think how very easy it would be to convert a penstyle or larger e-cig to a weapon. An electronic jammer. A single-shot pistol. A nerve gas dispenser. A deadly laser.

You have a battery, a button triggering mechanism and a cartridge for containing whatever you'd like. Can't take the chance these days. We have a growing list of airlines that prohibit them (just as the list of countries grows!) but a shrinking list of airlines that will allow them to be freely carried on and/or used in flight.

Think lawsuit if the worst happened. Plan for that possibility. That's the way the thinking goes. It's understandable that they would be banned.

First AA, UA, WN banned their use in flight. Now Air Canada bans them on board completely. Looks like it's spreading. I'm used to not smoking during flights, so i never found it hard to not vape on those same flights. I'm just not happy about having to check my bag now. I know for a fact that if I check my bag with my PV's in Mexico City, the PV's won't be there when I arrive in Houston. I *always* loose things on those trips.

As flight crew I RARELY check my bags (Especially when transferring through London Heathrow or Airports in some 3rd world countries... Kiss my ecig, AND my bag goodbye)

The only thing I can reccomend to help avoid your ecigs being taken out of your bag is to buy some TSA approved locks that can be opened by a TSA master key and have an indicator alerting you that your bag has been opened. This however doesnt help the chance off losing your bags or shady baggage screeners...

Whilst I agree that their ban is no surprise, I don't see e-cigs as being especially likely to be "cover" for some covert operation. Indeed it's a pretty bad choice given what they look like and are unfamiliar to most people. Some would-be terrorist would have to be nuts to use a highly suspicious looking e-cig when other items are readily available and much more easily passed over because they look normal. Cell phones are the most obvious example but there are many other small battery operated devices that are significantly more likely to be of use to someone having such an inclination.

Security is not the reason for their ban. I suspect it's both the ever popular "electronic devices" category since they can't actually be turned off (except for manuals) and that airlines don't want to open the whole "vaping on a plane" can of worms. Note that it's individual airlines that are banning them, not the security authorities.

Bob, you are a lot more tolerant of infringement on individual liberties than I. The horror of 9/11 has become an excuse for far too many government encroachments.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

surely the same could be said about any electrical equipment. the ipod has an electrical supply, button triggering mechanisms, space enough to add all that james bond stuff your talking about. same with a psp, a ds, a laptop. these are all ok to use on a plane so i dont see the difference.

if we are all going to live in fear because everyone and everything is a potential bomb, weapon of mass destruction, out to kill everyone else etc then the terrorists have won. all these crazy laws are taking your freedom away, not granting you it

Well I'll be travelling with air Canada again, as long as I can take my e-cig with me.

Pasted below is what it says today:

    "Accepted ItemsAccepted items include
Electronic cigarettes (or 'e-cigarettes'), provided they remain stowed and unused in your carry-on baggage."
