Does anyone know definitively if PG or VG vapor will set off the fire alarms on planes? I have a transatlantic flight tomorrow on United. Although I could probably stand not vaping I would like the option to go off to the lavatory if need be.
Definitively, not possible, unless you know the type of smoke detectors being used for each plane and each airline. Anecdotal evidence available on the forum indicates that if you avoid blowing directly into the smoke detector, and avoid completely filling the space with vapor, you shouldn't have any problems vaping in the WC, and I can add my experience to that evidence.
It's possible by blowing directly into the sensor.
Somebody posted that they tried it and set the alarm in the plane off so it's not merely theoretical.

Yep, vape dissapates quickly but if your in the bathroom just vape away from detector or pull the plug in the sink and blow into it. The sink has strong suction.
Well, I made the flight just fine. I didn't set off the detector and actually vaped more in my seat than anywhere else. I basically just did the stealth vape technique and since I was sitting at a window I just turned my head toward the window when I inhaled and exhaled and nobody was the wiser. I didn't want to take the chance of being told I couldn't do it so I didn't bother asking.
I have an american airlines flight to LA and then a Qantas flight to Brisbane. I am planning on vaping in the bathroom only, but I am worried about taking my ecig through security and having it confiscated or something.

I found a pen large enough to cut the end off and fit it over my 510. I also cut the cartridge and can write with it. Just find a pen cartridge low enough on ink or it may cause a serious mess. I plan to travel with a small pad and doodle a little while vaping/flying.
I worry about that every time too. So I scatter my stuff through all my various bags and pockets. The only place that even looked twice at me was Canada. No problem anywhere domestic, no problems in China or Hong Kong.
I've haven't yet heard of anybody getting their gear confiscated at the airport. I'd just carry the stuff loose in your purse or carry-on bag. I'd be a little more leery of large bottles of e-juice or some of the bigger mods that look like pipe-bombs. If asked tell them what it is and if necessary promise not to use it. They're not against the law to own - yet.. except Singapore and maybe Colombia and Panama.

No. It's H.L. Mencken! I had to look it up.

Yep, so far no problems reported by anyone here. With all the travel I do I was questioned only once and still had no problem. Heck even walked through security a few times forgetting some e-liquid in my pocket.
