Why would it be hot in your carry-on? And if heat were a sole criterion of of a weapon, how do you explain all those passengers getting on the plane with cups of Starbucks purchased at the terminal?

well, i'm a noob with the vaping scene. i haven't even vaped yet, but doesn't the atomizer get hot like a cigarette lighter (in your car)? using that could be a weapon. coffee is different, since you can't really heat it up after it cools down.

wouldn't be hot with your carry on, but security will fiddle with the device and might figure out what it does.

Honestly in the right hands anything can be a weapon. An atomizer is no different. Like with most items an atomizer is not considered a weapon by security and therefor will not be confiscated. Yes it gets really hot but so do cigarette lighters and they are allowed on. I wouldnt worry about it unless the FDA bans the sale of ecigs and even then I dont see a reason why TSA would have an issue with it because the FDA doest say what is a prohibited item in airports. Technically speaking TSA isnt even looking for drugs, all TSA is there to look for is threats to the aircraft and passengers. I still wouldnt suggest bringing drugs with you on your next flight due to the amount of police officers and FBI agents that are looking for drugs though. Yes there are FBI agents in a lot of airports. Next time you see a guy with a fannypack dont judge him too much because that could be holding his badge handcuffs and firearm.

Since when are lighters allowed on planes again? About 5 years ago when I went to Las Vegas, they took all of the lighters that I had on me, saying that they weren't allowed on the plane with me. (Already had checked my luggage)

Ecigs are not prohibited. I'm with TSA/DHS. Feel free to carry them on. I did post that the ecig resembles a detonator through the Xray machine. Worst case scenairo is that your bag will be searched but just explain to the TSA officer that it's an electronic cigarette and it will pass.

Well its been at least a year and a half because thats how long I have work with TSA. I do remember when they were banned because I worked for an airline from 2001 till 2005 and would get a metric ass ton of lighters from the passengers who would give them to me cecause they couldnt take them through the security checkpoint. I smoked at that point so I loved it.
