Just got one and all I have to say is WOW!!

I'm a provari owner and somehow this box is my go-to mod. Small and light and packs a wallop!!

Currently using it on my 306 atty with Boba's Bounty and the vape is smoother and tastes better than a provari?? Wow!!

Awesome cheap box mod.

I'm so impressed, I bought 2 more to keep in my mod rotation.

I don't own one but, they are well thought of. Typically the plastic cases will take a reasonable fall. The downfall of the plastic case is that they tend to develop stress cracks over time. Using magnets to hold the back on works better. I don't know how the back attaches on these. It looks like a standard case. You can probably get another case and replace the back.

Since I own a provari, when I got this I was quite shocked at the quality. But when you think about it it's justified. It uses a regular 3 AA battery box that's uber cheap, but the actual construction of the button and the 510 connector is very solid.

I don't think it will fare too well if it takes a substantial drop, but on carpet or wood flooring it will come off unscathed.

And yes, this is the varicool one.

Get one, for this price you can't go wrong!

I don't think this will develop stress cracks, because the back is a bit loose imho. The only thing I see long term is that the back might become loose over time and will require some fiddling and modding to stick on.

I've had my VariCool for 6 months now. It absolutely cranks out huge clouds! The drawbacks are the back panel will fail over time, it is held together by tabs on the top that slide into notches in the box itself. Mine is held together with gorilla tape as the tabs have both broken. Also you can't tell the exact voltage your vaping at , the variable is a dial in the back of the unit, no digital display. Also it seems fickle with cartomizers, mine will only fire 1 out of every 3 dual coils. I am presently in search of a connection that will solve this major issue which has just arisen recently. A 510 to 510 didn't work nor did a 510 to ego connector. If anyone has solved this issue with any mod I'd love to here your solution.

My VariCool has taken more than a few falls . It is absolutely durable in that sense as it appears all of the vulnerable parts are well sealed inside of a thick coating of epoxy. The back panel is the only weak point.

If you are using protected cells rather than IMRs, that might be the problem.

The SmokTek VariCool uses the 3 amp version of that regulator. It should power 1.5 ohm DC but not at higher voltages. If it's set to high that could be the reason it's not firing. If you want to use DC at 6v or close to it there are modders in the supplier forum that will use the 6 amp version of that chip which will fire a 1.5 ohm DC with no problem.

Also if you're using protected batteries the protection is probably kicking in with DC. If you're going to run dual core you need to be using high drain IMR batteries, I'd suggest AW.

Hi BeauJangler, I have a few varicool boxmods(built by me, for me)and I have noticed this issue on occasion mostly with the dc cartos . It would be worth a check to be certain that the dc center contact is actualy making good contact. The production of the Dual Coil Cartos is less than great so a simple toothpick, unbent paperclip etc to the center connector hole while wiggling the contact outward almost always does the trick for me. Be gentle it only usually needs to come out less than a milimeter. My boxes use the 6a or 10a chip so theres nothing that I have ever tried to run, at any given voltage, that wouldnt fire unless it wasn't making good contact. Hope that helps. Good Luck. Happy Vaping.
