Chad! I didn't mean you had hijacked the thread...no we all did! For about 83 pages..lol Walrus has kindly posted he didn't care!![]()
It happens.
There is a welcome..back a few pages I think. But don't sweat it. Now talk to me about those two conditions.
Hi to our new members! It is good to see you but sad for the reasons you are here. I wish you all the best and hope you have more good days than bad ones!
And dealing with the VA is a pain in the butt!
Jules, Mike has been dealing with the V.A. on a regular basis for a while and he gets very good care! Well he did until his newest Dr.
This guy is at LEAST 16 and doesn't know his where to put his thumb yet! He is dealing with men and women who could probably kill him with a paper clip and he acts like they are 12 year olds. Just because you are retired (at age 38) doesn't make you a doddering old person. And just because you graduated from med school only means you have a good memory..not skills!
The level of care..before Dr. Doogie came along was outstanding. They have tested him for everthing from his eyes to agent orange. I told Mike to try to switch primary caregivers.
MRI, well, went! It was in an 'open' machine because I'm claustrophobic. HA! The space over your face is even smaller than the old style machine and I made the mistake of not closing my eyes as I went in, then spent almost the whole time trying to breathe off the panic. Sure glad I took a Xanax 'just in case' before I went in the building!
At least 1 bulging disk, and 4 that are either touching or almost touching the spinal cord from what I can see - chiro will look at the pix on Friday and I'll know more. Also sending them to my bro who is an internist/hospitalist who is going to have a neuro look at it too. So, I'll have 3 opinions before my regular doc even gets the radiology report!
MK, sure hope your Mike can get an experienced doc!
Hey MaryKay, I've had excellent care at the VA via the primary care physicians and pharmacy. Even my experiences with the dental clinic were positive while I was located in Florida and Arkansas. Moving back to my hometown of Cincinnati, which has a "bluecollar" mentality, has been problematic in the dental clinic. On a side note...I've gotten used to be addressed as Mister. I love the expression I get when the person calling for a Mister realizes I'm actually a MS.
If your hubby can not change his PCP, perhaps he can opt to raise him the way he wants to!![]()
LadyRaj, You guys always make me laugh! I ran in and told Mike what you said..he shook his head and said..I raised my share of Lieutenant's in the Air Force..Not starting again! He was laughing. Mike was a Master Sgt. who always got to babysit the new Lou's.
I'm a 100% disabled vet. I used the VA clinic here in Baton Rouge for a while, and it wasn't too bad... kinda like using a military hospital. Unfortunately, after Hurricane Katrina destroyed the VA hospital in New Orleans, dealing with clinic up here became a nightmare.
I now use a team of private doctors, and use Tricare Prime as my health insurance. The quality of care has gone up 1000% (at least) but even though the co-pays are reasonable ($12 for wrecked, $25 for bonkers) they add up when you have a bunch of appointments each month. Primary Care, Pain Management, Physical Rehabilitation, Neurologist, Neurosurgeon, Gastroenterologist, Oncologist, Psychologist... geez. My rolodex is like the medical yellow pages.
I also miss free meds from the VA pharmacy. I wish I could use them to fill scripts from my private doctors.
MaryKay, I'm retired Air Force also... I raised my share of butter bars.![]()
Walrus, Unless your meds are service connected, they aren't free. Mike doesn't pay for connected stuff but the rest is a bit less then Tricare. I refuse to do the med by mail thing because of mixups, but he has to. His controlled stuff is the worst! They are forever messing that up making him go to Orando for the day (40 miles above us).
That's friggin' crazy... I am on SSI and pay $3 for co-payments for my doctors and for each med, except life sustaining meds, like my insulin... I don't think medical insurance should cost anyone anything.. Makes me sick what our world is like... I can't wait to go to another, the next time around![]()
