Rife
You might look into RIFE RESONANT Therapy. It is pretty involved, but it looks like this may be a long term problem. It is an amazing technology, that is really just beginning to be investigated. Its mechanism of action is not well understood. I have been researching and using it for several years.
Just Google Rife Therapy...Lots of info.

also forgot to add...hydrotherapy is great. easy on the joint and allows movement!

I have spinal problems as well as MS, my spinal canal is too narrow so it presses on the spinal nerve ("stenosis"), and facet joint arthritis with it. This causes me chronic acute lower back pain and also referred pain in my hip and leg, making standing and walking very painful. I also have some milder osteoarthritis in my spine but I'm not too aware of any pain from it, or maybe the stenosis overpowers it. I also have osteoporosis in my lumbar area and head of femur, but no pain from it.
There isn't a pain killer on this earth that helps except for resting by sitting or lying down. I now have a combination of nerve block and steroid injections into the spine, in different areas, which sometimes helps and sometimes doesn't. Short of that, surgery is the only other option but we're trying to avoid it (for now at least!).
I also had problems with my knee joints many years ago and had cortisone shots for those too and they helped. I rarely get pain in my knees nowadays, but I did have to give up certain sports in order not to trigger it again.
Years ago, it was suggested I try a TENS machine for my back. Someone else I knew who also had spinal stenosis found it helped. Unfortunately, I didn't. Might a good TENS machine help?
I agree that hydrotherapy is an excellent way of exercising as the water supports you and makes exercising much easier and in a gentler way.

I have ankylosing spondylitis, so I have a lot of issues with my spine a peripheral joints. I just starting taking tumeric tablets (yes, the indian spice thats in curry) a few months ago, and the effect has been really good. I kind of stumbled into it, it was recommended to me for a skin condition, but when I started using it, my joints felt lots better. After I dug around a bit, I found some research that indicated that it acts as a COX 2 inhibitor, thus the pain relieving effects. It has been really helpful to me.
Sorry, if it is inappropriate to post here without invitation, if so, just tell me and I'll get lost. Also sorry if tumeric has been brought up already.

Deliza! Welcome and thank you for posting. I don't believe turmeric has been mentioned.
So far we are an open sub forum, but currently we are voting to see if that's the way we want to keep it. Please feel free to post wherever you like.

I have OA and RA. A couple of things I may be able to add is that I use Lidoderm patches (by prescription only) but not sure if they can be used by children. The patches are rather large but can be cut into any size you need. I have used them on my knees and large knuckles on my hands. The best way for use on my hands is by putting them on at night before bed otherwise they won't stay on with daily activity. I cut them into strips that run horizontally across my knuckles and then I put on a pair of snug gloves or mittens.
A thought about things that in my case, trigger flares. Besides the weather which we cannot control, I found that if I take in too much sodium, it will throw me into a flare as quickly as a change in the weather.
The only other thing I can think of is that my stomach cannot tolerate regular aspirin but I can take low dose (81 mg.) enteric coated aspirin without a problem.

When my son was young he had juvenile arthritis in his hands. big knots on the finger joints, and was in great pain and could not close his hands or grab anything, the docs said he would have this for the rest of his life and he could only control the pain with drugs, at the time we lived way out in the country and I met a lady that was into herbs. she said she had taken ppl with arthritis out of wheelchairs with a salve she made, she gave me a small jar of it. I rubbed it into the knots on my sons fingers, 2X's a day. after a week I seen small pimples forming on the knots. the lady said this is the calcum of the arthritis coming out thro the skin. so using this salve for 2 months the knots where gone and he could close his hands ang hold on to anythig he grabed. my son is now in his 30's and has had no more problems.
here is how the lady told me to make this salve
take a handfull of Balm of Gilead ( you can get this from any bulk herb seller on the net )
add it to a pound of unsalted lard
I put in a very small pinch of red pepper for a soothing heat that helps with the pain.
let it simmer on very low heat all day
put in in a jar do not strane
rub on the spot with arthritis 2X's a day
and is safe to use on children
hope this helps everyone with arthritis

May I suggest something completely different.
My fiance' has an MA in Psychology and has been using EFT for both emotional issus and physical problems.
You can learn this for free at emofree.com they will give you a free manual. Then you can appy it to your Mom by tapping on yourself but thinking of her.
It seems impossible. So far I have fixed my back, my Moms knee, and some emotional issues about myself. My fiance' has used it for year on everything!
This video will explain some but go to the site above.

Hi Everyone
My fiance' has an MA in Psychology she has been using EFT or Tapping as it is more commonly known for the past 10 years. I have been using it for about a year. It is amazing and you all should try it on your pains. Gary Craig invented it in the 90's. It fixed my back pain in 5 min., fixed my Mom's bad knee and has help myself and thousands of others and it's free, no pills, no drugs. This is Gary Craigs website he will give you a free manual here- EFT Home - World Center for EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) This is a PDF that will show you how to do it
http://www.centerforinnerhealing.com/eft/eft_on_a_page.pdf . I have a program I have written "Tapping on Golf Performance" I can lowere golf scores with tapping. If any Golfer out there want's to try it I will give 100% money back if it dosen't help. My fiance' is currently working on a founding a support group for "Tapping on Codependency" she has written a book by the same name. Enjoy these video's and please try this you have nothing to loose.
