This is a way for the "night Owls" stay in touch with real live, (awake) people. Other then time differences for the people in the U.K. and Europe, You see all of us posting in the wee hours.

I know that awake, yet not awake feeling. The scariest for me is to wake up and not be able to move or to take a breath. The Doctor told me it was probaby just for a second or two..Ha! It felt like an hour. I know now what those buried alive people feel. Or maybe people who are in a coma. It's scary to the max!

I can take meds to get to sleep, but I don't want to and only do that when I have to be up in the A.M. Benadryl works sometimes. Mostly I just go with the flow and the heck with the rest of the world. Mike gets mom her breakfast (at 10 or 11am) I get up around noon and do dinner and the other chores.

I do like being the only one awake in the night..it's peaceful hanging around with you guys.

I knew there were a lot of night owls out there but didnt realize we had this many on here. I know how aggravating it can be to be so out of sync with the rest of the world.

MK, the feeling of not being able to move or take a breath is another sleeping disorder by itself. It's called sleep paralysis.

It can be very frightening and it goes by the name Old Hag's Syndrome since often people see an old lady when it happens. Sometimes people mistake it for something paranormal and really freak out.

    Who you calling Old!
I will read up on that disorder in just a bit, I was only checking P.M.'s at the moment. Another disorder..geesh..I seem to be collecting the dratted things, just like Christina said!
    I'm back:
The old hag thing is the feeling that an old hag/ghost/spirit is sitting on your chest. They say is can be a result of interrupted or lack of REM sleep. Well that's a given if you have trouble sleeping or getting to sleep!

That's pretty much what it is happening. Your brain sends out a chemical/signal ( I forget which) that helps keep your body from thrashing about in your sleep or else you would beat yourself to death while you are dreaming. When your mind tries to wake up before the the body is cleared of this chemical/signal is when the sleep paralysis happens. Your mind thinks you should be able to move but your body isn't ready to yet and yeah, it can/will scare the crap out of you each and every time it happens.

And of course you're not old or a hag,lol You are one od the great high lights of this forum. I hope you don't get run off too.

I don't mind being called a hag..but never old! That implies well.. all kinds of things I am avoiding.

Nah, no running me off, I am not very controversial or confrontational. I pretty much go with the flow unless I get seriously angry.

With my hair temper I know to just get off line and go have a nice cuppa. Luckily I have penty of time to do this as I type so slowly. LOL

My temper is improving now that my blood sugar and blood pressure are staying low. Mike says I rarely look like this anymore or this.

That sounds so much like me,lol I know I was very hard to deal with until they got my BP and HR under control. Shoot, I always felt like I was running a marathon and that made me so cranky. A good vape and nice cup of coffee and I'm good to go now.
