I used to be a huge King fan. Until his comment about the military.
I'm an old Anne Rice fan.
But my favorites are the series by:
*Laurell K. Hamilton
*Charlaine Harris
*Kim Harrison
*MaryJanice Davidson
*Jeaniene Frost

I also read V.C Andrews, but only when my grandmother buys them and gives them to me when she's done.
I grew up an Andrews fan, but whoever took over after she died has no imagination.
It's the same screwed up family, rape, pregnancy, murder with different names.
(Although, I did love the Orphan mini-series)

I read the same authors! Though Jeaniene Frost is new...I'll have to check her out. Kim Harrisons' new book came out today (once dead twice shy) but it's a young adult book...not sure about it for me, though I did enjoy Twilight series.

I have a Kindle too.. I love it and highly recommend it. I read a lot of Dean Koontz, Stephen King, John Grisham, Patricia Cornwall, James Lee Burke, James Patterson with some Nelson Demille, John Sanford, Michael Connelly thrown in for good measure. In fact..I've been known to read cereal boxes when all else fails.

But seriously..on the Kindle, if you have eyesight problems of any kind, then the Kindle is your friend. I love being able to increase the font size.

Edit: Just wanted to mention that there are many free books out there for the Kindle.. it helps to offset the price you pay for instant gratification on books and on the Kindle itself.

I like all the people you like, except I kind of have a love/hate thing with King. I like his short stories, but I get tired of his books. It's like ok, tell me more about the blood, and throw in the obligatory sex scene that has nothing to do with the plot, blah blah blah.

Anybody belong to paperback swap or bookmooch? I joined to try to weed out my ever growing piles of books, but I seem to be getting as many as I'm sending out, so it isn't working out so well.

I read true crime and comedy also. I love Laurie Notaro, Bill Bryson,Christopher Moore,Carl Hiaasen,Steve Martini, Mario Puzo, all of Anthony Bourdain's books have been pretty entertaining so far, and I recently read one called Sleepers by Lorenzo Carcaterra that was pretty intense. I'll read about anything except romance.

I would love a Kindle.

I used to read a lot of romance but got bored with them too. Seemed like after awhile, the plots were all the same, just different characters. I read one once in a great while now. Sounds like you need a kindle for sure. I used to pass all my books to my sister but she lives two hours away so they piled up for months before I could get rid of them.

I'm thinkin' so. Our whole hall is lined with shelves and they're overflowing. I've moved several times and given away books every time, but it never seems to make any difference.

How about a juicy romance novel?

My absolute favorite is Forever Amber by Kathleen Winsor.

I just read a great historical romance series by Diana Gabaldon. The first in the series is Outlander. It has time travel, sex, adventure, suspense, and lots more. I loved all the books and she is supposed to come out with another. I can't wait.

Writer here, so reader is foregone conclusion. Koontz, King... over them, bored now. (Sorry... ) For pleasure, I mostly read SF and F, Historical, lit; for research -- everything from "The Indifferent Stars Above" (about the Donner party -- and the book is fascinating) to "Sex with Kings" (a history of Royal mistresses) to "Following the Drum" (a history of military families, specifically wives.)

Currently on my faves list for fiction --
-- the Mary Russell mysteries, by Laurie R King;
-- anything by Guy Gavriel Kay (though all time fave is the Lions of Al-Rassan -- it's about a world that's almost medieval Spain under Muslim rule);
-- Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell (Jane Austen + Patrick O'Brien + Naomi Novik + magic) by Susanna Clarke;
-- Neal Stephenson, especially Snowcrash, the Diamond Age and the Baroque Cycle;
-- Neil Gaiman, especially Neverwhere, American Gods and Anansi Boys;
-- Naomi Novik's Temeraire series (dragons in the Napoleonic Wars);
-- Jane Austen,
-- Spider Robinson (all of them)
-- Kate Wilhelm,
-- Robin McKinley's Sunshine (vampires + cinnamon rolls...) and everything else she's written...

I also liked 1491, by Charles C Mann (about the anthropology of the western hemisphere before Columbus got lost and opened up the plague vials...); Nicholas Wade's Before the Dawn (about the genetics of human evolution); Molly Ivins' Who Let the Dogs In?; Stephen Johnson's The Ghost Map (about cholera and the doctor who figured out that cholera is a water-borne illness)...

I will read almost anything... given that it is well written and doesn't make me want to reach through the page and slap a character for not managing to think. (Thus the bored with King, Koontz, Brown, Steele, Rice, et al...)

Reading New Moon from the Twilight series now. It's keeping me interested.

I read most everything except sci-fi (gives me heebie jeebies) and don't care much for romance anymore. In my to read stack, are Bret Hartes Gold Rush, Ken Follets The pillars of the Earth, Pioneer Women, Janet Evanovich (hysterical) Plum Lucky. I really like period pieces and history. The 1491 and The Indifferent Stars Above from CZs list piqued my interest!
