Actually she has a whole book of "footnotes" for that series, to help you sift through that. It's called the Outlandish Companion.
Oh sure, my friend never told me about the companion! I just saw her yesterday and told her I was discussing the Outlander series and said I asked you all if it was the series with the realistic sex. She couldn't remember!

Oh, she remembered all the historial stuff great, but not the sex. Me, I remember the sex! Shows you where my mind was on that series!

Gabaldon's series is awesome! I loved all the books and can't wait for the next one to come out.

Realistic sex, yes. And I often found my self wrinkling my nose wondering if I could do it after going so long w/o bathing.

Heck, I haven't taken a shower yet today (day off, didn't go anywhere) and there is no way I could have sex without one. However if we lived back then we prolly wouldn't think anything of it cause everyone smelled. :P

Sept. 22nd is the nest one. And yes, I agree, I'm way to modern for the unwashed sex, but heck, at that time, they were lucky if they saw a bath every few months, so I doubt they found if off putting.

I just read Stephen Kings "Under The Dome". very long but mucho good!
What would happen if a dome came down over your small town in an intant? Miles deep a mile or so high, invisable and inpentrable. Even air can only trickle in. Now imagine that there are (of course..this is little Stevie King!) a mad politician, his even madder bully and killer of a son and one breakfast cook who is the town's only hope. Stir gently and simmer.

    MK,

I swear we are twins separated at birth! My mom swears that this cannot be true but I think she is lieing! I read Under the Dome right after I got it for Christmas... what a great book (from a retired writer, LOL) Towards the end my son was going to Subway and I almost asked him if he could get there, lol. Started to feel like I could only go so far before running into the glass.

I also love Dean Koontz, Anne Rice, Terry Goodkind, Terry Brooks, Janet Evanovich... the list is endless. I just finished reading Watership Downs again what an awesome read! Also, my daughter gave me By A Lady by Amanda Elyot. I must admit that I didn't really get into Jane Austin books but this one was really good. For the historical romance readers out there I would recommend it.

I would love to have a book club (think someone way back in the thread suggested)

Edit to clarify: By a Lady is about a modern girl that gets shifted to Jane Austin's time. My original post makes it sound like it IS a Jane Austin book. Good grammar and punctuation FTW!

OOOHHH! thank you for resurrecting this thread! I LOVE books. I read just about ANY fiction - but really like mysteries and science fiction. and I read instead of watch TV- I'm such a throwback, I don't even have cable.

I liked Under the Dome. One of the few in which King ended the story without copping out-very nice twist. I like his books, but not always the endings.

edited to add: Watership Down is one of my all time favorites. I've read it 3 or 4 times. I've read all of the LOTR series a few times (and other Tolkein too)

Has anyone read any Robert McCammon? My favorite of his was "A Boy's Life". Some wonderful descriptions in it. "Sings the Nightbird" was also good. I'm reading the "Queen of Bedlam", the second in the series of the three that started with Nightbird.

I've gotten into Pat Conroy recently- First I read, South of Broad - very good, then Prince of Tides - knowing it HAD to be good and now I'm reading Beach Music.

I've also liked Anne Rice - particularly the Mayfair Witch series.

I love Grisham, and Turow. Not much into murder and mayhem. My daughter likes Koontz.

The only King book I thoroughly enjoyed is "Bag of Bones" - it was supposed to be made into a movie - but it never happened.
