Hey - I just stumbled on this thread, and I have a stupid question. I don't have a lot of lady friends, working in male-dominated fields all my life, and the few I have, well, this question just seems too personal. I suppose I should just ask my doc, but he'll give me the book answer, and I want the real-life answer, if you know what I mean. Here goes.......... At what age do most women begin menopause? How long does this last for real women (not the statistical outliers they always show in commercials)? I ask because I'm 47, and I have no signs (that I know of) of menopause. My sister-in-law, on the other hand, is only 2 years older than I am, and she has been in full-blown menopause for at least three years. I also started my cycle early (12), which I've read usually causes earlier menopause, but in my case....nope. Opinions? Thoughts? Thanks! |

I can answer one part, Dr Oz made a comment about that menapause being more related to family genetics then what age you started your cycle. I think you body is designed to make gradual changes over years that are not noticiable, and it is documentated that many woman don't go through extreme experiences..

One thing everyone experiencing bad hot flashes might want to have checked is their blood pressure. Nothing I took seemed to help my symptoms for turning down the heat... then I found out my blood pressure was high. After starting blood pressure meds, I noticed a drastic decrease in intensity and instances of hot flashes. There seems to be some link from what I've read. While I still get the occasional hot flashes, they are mostly tolerable now compared to before starting blood pressure meds.
