I did my roast in the crock pot too for 8 hours on low, but I seared it first this time, and it made a BIG difference (or maybe the roast was just a better one! ) I stuck some fresh garlic into it with a knife, then sprinkled onion soup mix over it... and it had a yummy flavor!

Allestaria your coke bbq sauce sounds yummy... I'll have to try that next!

Mixxy, your roast is making me hungry! One of my favorite meals of all is kind of like yours but it has mushroom soup and dry onion soup mix and a little wine with it. You can either wrap it up tight in foil and cook it slow like 325 in the oven for about 4 hours or you can crock pot it. It's so good with that gravy over a pile of smashed potatoes.

My grandson called last night and says "Grandma, I got some hot dogs!" So he's coming over with my daughter and we'll have Casper's hot dogs tonight and carve up some pumpkins. He's such a sweet guy. Even tho he's almost 21 he still loves his gramma!

My grandma was Danish and she always used yellow peas to make her soup. I don't know what the difference is but I always make the yellow version with a ham hock. Haven't done that it a while, glad you reminded me. Now that it's getting colder those soup and stew recipes sure whet the appetite. Keep 'em coming!

Ferretlovr - that's so sweet that your grandson still wants to come over & carve pumpkins with his grandma!

What are yellow peas? Are they with the split peas in the grocery store? I don't ever remember seeing them. It would be fun to try them!

Luv2 - LOL! I know... I think hubby is addicted to my roasts now.. so it's a good thing I bought 4 on the buy-1-get-1 free sale! I was busy coloring my dogs pink (non-toxic sidewalk chalk ) for a Halloween party so I reheated the roast in foil in the oven for a quick dinner.. and it was even better the 2nd night.. soooo moist!

I'm planning for Sunday dinner (remember, I don't really like cooking so I have to plan ahead). Have some spareribs thawing in the refrigerator and found an interesting recipe online...you cook them in the crockpot with apple butter and bbq sauce...think I'll give it a try.

Tonight is the downfall of true chefs. We are going out so I...um...*gasp*...

I grabbed a couple Digiorno pepperoni pizzas for one, mine regular and hers thin crust and..omg...frozen onion rings, lol. At least I am going to do them right, deep fried in veggy oil/lard mix. hehe.

And beer. Henry Weinhards special reserve. yummy.

Yesterday was a big BIG football game here.. being from Minnesota, we are almost required to watch when we play our archrivals the Green Bay Packers!
We had hotwings, the perfect football food of course with some fries.. no veggies! lol
Ren boiled the wings first, to get a bunch of fat out.. then he baked em, hoping for some crispyness and finally tossed em in the hotsauce. They were pretty good for a sort of healthy version of wings..

Is that even a real thing? Healthy wings?
We tried something new tonight "Saddler's Dinner for Two"..in the refrigerated section near the preparred BBQ and potato dishes. We got the BBQ'd beef and mashed Potatos. Not bad..it was ok for a quick micro meal.
We have been shopping for clothes to wear to my charity dance. Nothing fancy (thank Goodness!) just nice. He has lost weight, I have just moved mine around. I only buy clothes for special occations..so maybe once a year! After walking a mall yesterday and another today..I was too tired to cook!

I looooove Apple Butter! Have never tried it on ribs... That actually sounds good!
What is your charity for, MaryKay? Hope you all do well with it!

Well, I missed the last couple days of course- the kids had halloween and everything going on... Halloween night was hotdogs w/ chili, slaw, etc- I am lucky my kids love some hotdogs! LOL We do usually make it a meal and it is good for a change of pace- I can eat hotdogs at home but can't deal w/ a fast food hotdog at all... I don't know why-
Last night we made a big pot of chili! It was so good! I was irritated though because at the grocery store it seemed everyone had chili night going on prior to me shopping... only kidney beans left were the small cans, no dried beans, no large cans etc... tomatoes were minimal and the cans... well, they had tomato paste in the small cans and seasoned stewed tomatoes in small cans and that was it- I got the huge cans of diced tomatoes at Sam's... Crackers... I bought the "Premium" brand- All Zesta (my normal brand) and all the store brand were gone- only store brand left were unsalted tops... I was like, MAN! But we got it worked out- It was delicious and I have a bit left over- (I used my largest stock pot to make it)- The leftovers are all in the freezer including the cornbread- Mmmmm- A quick dinner one night this week-
Tonight we are making scrapple... I love it- the kids love it- It's quick and easy and so delicious! People make this all different ways but I am using up a half roll of ham that we bought for slicing deli slices for kids lunches, subs, and such- It needs to be used up so I am using that to make scrapple this time... It will be wonderful!
Hey who listens to Sirius Radio- Martha Stewart Channel?? I love Everyday Foods... I like a lot of the shows- LOL On everyday foods she always does some really cool things- "Use it up" and she will tell people that call in how to use up bits of stuff they have left around the kitchen that isn't "enough" to do a whole meal with... she will tell ya how to use it up- It is cool...
Okay, I must be in a talkative mood today- LOL Either too much sleep or because I haven't been feeling like talking for the last few days... Whatever it is- I will leave room on this post for others- LOL
