Had to throw in a bit here... My family got bored with the traditional turkey n ham thing years ago.. now we do whatever sounds good (for both xmas and thanksgiving) which is usually a butt load of desert and a little veggies and whatever meat dad's craving. One year we had fried chicken.. another we did chicken friend steak lol

hmm what is eggnog pie? that sounds interesting!
We do the turkey thing.. and everyone has a job. I get the Turkey gravy and the dressing, my daughter gets dessert, middle son gets the mashed potatoes, youngest gets the jello and salad stuff, and Ren gets in my way

Eggnog Pie:
1 bottle rum
1 pie crust
several sprinkles of cinnamon
carton of eggnog
some sort of pie filling
Take eggnog and fill a glass about 3/4 full, add rum to fill and sprinkle with cinnamon. Repeat until eggnog and rum are gone. Take some sort of pie filling (at this point it could be beef stew and you are OK with that), fill crust...don't bake because you are now flammable. Cover and put in fridge.
Go out the next day and get more rum. Repeat sans pie, let your MIL figure it out.

The 'real' eggnog pie
Eggnog Pie
1 (4.6 ounce) package (not instant) vanilla pudding mix
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
1 1/2 cups eggnog
2 tsp. rum (or 1 tsp. rum extract)
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
1 (9 inch) pie shell, baked
1 pinch ground nutmeg
Additional whipped cream & nutmeg (optional)
In a medium saucepan, combine pudding mix, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, and egg nog; mix well. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thick and bubbly. Remove from heat, and stir in rum. Transfer mixture to a large bowl, cover, and refrigerate until thoroughly chilled. In a medium bowl, whip the cream until stiff peaks form. Remove the cold pudding from the refrigerator, and beat until smooth; fold in the whipped cream. Spoon into baked pie shell. Refrigerate 4 hours, or until set.
Optional serving suggestion: Top each slice of pie with a dollop of whipped cream, and sprinkle with nutmeg.

Eh. My family usually does the big traditional thanksgiving at grandmas...we have about 20 or so people around the table(s). Last year we mad 3 turkeys. One smoked, one deep fried and one roasted. All the usual fixin's...Pearled onions, multiple dressings, burbon sweet taters, like...20lbs of mashed taters....etc. EVERYONE goes home with leftovers and a pie.
