Actual temperature inside a Kangertech Nano

Specifications:
  • Kangertech Nano atomizer
  • Factory 1.5ohm nichrome coil
  • 36awg thermocouple threaded through AFC hole, resting directly on coil
  • Recorded by NIST traceable Solo Temperature Controller (Calibration data can be seen in this post)
  • Testing done with AFC about 1/3 for MTL vaping
  • Targeted 2-3 second puffs, but they were somewhat varied (kinda hard to do repeatably), each puff length is documented though
  • Juice was a 36mg/ml 50/50 pg/vg

16w, ~3.1 sec puff, allowed 2 minute cool down then 4.3 sec puff then chained vaped a couple hits
(Note, I did not inhale the chainvape hits, I just puffed them, and I did taste the burnt flavor. On this cartridge style coil I could not tell if the wick was saturated or not, but I am assuming it was because when I removed it the organic cotton did not look burnt.)

Can I assume that if the AFC is wide open the temp would be lower? I currently use this set-up with 20mg/ml DIY juice with a wide open AFC at 18.4watts. As I understand this TC thing: is that anything over 450 degrees makes for more chemicals to be released. And with your calculations my wattage would cause the temp to be over that 450 degrees. I am guessing that to be a safer vape I should lower my wattage to around 13.6watts. Any thoughts?

"With all else equal" more air does equal lower temp. I have demonstrated this in other post here on the blog. So, YES, if you kept the wattage the same, but increased airflow, it would reduce your temperature.
