I came across ECF last year because my mom was at risk of losing her job as a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) because of using an electronic cigarette. I'd tried ecigs twice in the past, just didn't work for me.
Well, the story goes like this, my mom was seen using an ecig on her break. She received a write up the next day, as the hospital she worked at is a "
tobacco free campus". She immediately contacted me, and I started researching legislation, etc. and came across ECF. I've been
vaping ever since.
In the end, my mother ended up losing her job because after the hospital contacted their attorneys, apparently electronic cigarettes are a
tobacco product.
My mother (RRT) and I (RN, CEN) pay it forward each and everyday as we touch and make an impact on the patients that we care for.
I work ER and lifeflight and have seen many admissions to the hospital with orders specifically written "patient may use electronic cigarette". These orders always bring a smile to my face, and a special feeling in my heart, because besides the standard patches and gum, ecigs indeed are another nicotine replacement therapy.
