Extractions

So I've been making my own extractions. I have several that are tobaccos steeping, but I've always been a good cook and grown my own herbs. There is something about fresh that just can't be beat. So it wasn't a big leap for me to decided to extract sundry other items to make my own juice.

Chamomile. I filled a 100 ml glass jar with dried chamomile flowers and packed them in lightly. Then I filled it to the brim with PG (USP grade) and microwaved it for 10 secs. The dried flowers absorbed about 1/4 of the PG within minutes and I topped the jar back off with PG.. put a lid on the jar and set the jar in a warm water bath for 2 hours. I use my crock pot with the lid off as a warm water bath. I keep it on low and it maintains a pretty consistent temperature of about 180 F. I shut the crock pot off and let the jar continue to steep as it cooled. I got distracted on this batch and it steeped (cooled) for about 4 hours before I got around to filtering it.

I place a metal sieve over a clean glass jar and dump the material into the sieve, allow the infused PG to drain into the clean glass jar. Next I take a 30 ml syringe and stuff a cotton ball into it..... then I pour the liquid into the syringe replace the plunger and filter the liquid back into the (newly washed) original jar. For 100 ml jars I usually fill the syringe two or three times to get all the liquid filtered. Depending on how gunky the material is I often replace the cotton ball each time as well. That isn't needed for chamomile, but for some extracts like chocolate it is a must or you won't be able to push the plunger in. This chamomile extract produced 50 ml of clean infused PG-- the infused PG is the color of a granny smith apple.

So as is my habit, I always taste it fresh and then I vape some fresh. I take notes at this point and try to characterize the flavor so I can compare after it steeps. That wasn't needed with this. Oh my... this was spot on chamomile, which isn't a strong flavor to begin with and many describe it like a light apple type flavor. In tea I barely get any flavor from chamomile, that is just its nature. This was chamomile, but stronger than tea -- still light and fresh and you definitely get that vague since of a sweet fresh apple.

I couldn't put this down, I've been vaping it all day since. I vaped it for a few hours before I decided to experiment and add some nicotine to it. It is so satisfying on its own, it is quite amazing. It is also soothing and feels amazing on your throat.

If you want to know more about the properties of chamomile you can google it. I don't want to say something here that will cause a problem, but this is one delicious smooth vape.

I am vaping it straight or mixed as follows

7ml chamomile infused PG--straight from filtered crock pot PG
3ml 60mg PG nicotine base -- for a 18 mg mix

I would like to add I think I will cut this one back to 12 mg on my next mix... I normally vape around 28 mg , but this doesn't need much. So if you normally vape at 12 and want to try this, try it at zero first and if you feel you want to add something try 6 mg. This is not an intense flavor.. it is subtle and it is soothing.
