The Rayon name sounds like synthetic material, like nylon and the like... Which it is btw, only it's man-made but out of natural stuff, the wood pulp. Its shiny look doesn't help, either.
All in all it may be very difficult to convey that simple truth to the average Joe, though... I'm not even sure that using viscose as a name in lieu of Rayon may prove beneficial to the cause, but maybe we should try that.
What do you think?
SteamHead;13353736 said:JeremyRayon, to really make it easier to get people past the "OMG you're vaping plastic" reaction when you tell people about rayon, I think we need a concise post, that we can all copy and paste, that will put the common man's mind at ease. I'm pretty comfy after reading through sixty pages and all the various sources you've quoted, but not everyone is gonna wanna do that. If we could bring everything together that would be awesome. The safety factor will be the biggest hurdle in converting the masses.
turbocad6;13355136 said:to me it was worth buying the 40' coil pack online just for this reason, I've still got a huge box of hemp fiber in the garage that I have no idea what to do with, the 40' coil box is a nice small size. luckily I ordered it before sally's was discovered or I would have just ran and grabbed the big box but turns out the small box is really ideal here
pmcode;13355259 said:I broke some out and stuffed some into my dual-coil Kraken-clone. Once it broke in, about 5-6 puffs, the clouds started rolling outta of this thing.
I noticed this stuff does NOT like to "roll" like cotton does. Keeps wanting to "pop back out" into it's original shape. I think that is what is really making it a better wicking material than cotton. Cotton seems to stay bunched up, unless you let it sit for a long time.
Even my 3mg joose was hitting pretty good after a few minutes. 50/50 blend on a dual .5ohm Kraken.
brianc11111;13355909 said:your coil and wick will not gunk up neeeaarly as bad as cotton. getting gunk is the product of too hot of a coil.
think of it like cooking. if your pan is too hot....your meal is burnt. rayon wicks so much better and faster that your coil is not going to overheat as easily therefore burning your juice to a sludgy substance.
it wicks so good, that i had just gotten a panzer from slowtech and it didnt have a locking ring. well the firing button worked its way loose and while sitting there started firing the taifun. i came back downstairs and grabbed it to vape, burnt the crap out of my hand.
it had burned through the whole tank sitting there. there was only what stuck to the tank. battery was at 2.5 volts.
i was ....... let it cool, and pulled it apart. i was expecting black everything. i just knew the positive pin insulator was screwed.
to my surprise, nothing was burnt. insulator good. i was debating to leave the wick and coil in! it looked that good. just a little discoloration. i was shocked. man this is the real deal.
there is nothing that cotton can do better than rayon!!!!!!!
done deal
end of story
this argument cannot be broken!!

And that's what I used it for to make my own rba carto out of an oddy , see link in my signature for the birth of rayon. Lol
And I do have an rba design specifically for rayon that I came up with last year.... Need manufacturing and production...
VenusianSky;13361268 said:To confirm the stronger nicotine hit using rayon, has anyone vaped 0mg juice with cellucotton yet?
Bryong70;13361471 said:Yes, I use 0 nicotine juice. The flavor is excellent, better than cotton, more concentrated and pure.
RadicalM1nd;13361390 said:I have, what do you want me to confirm? Obviously, there's no nic hit
Yep, that's what im currently trying out. Did you boil yours?
JeremyR;13361817 said:I know what your thinking.. It is increased nic hit due to increased saturation of the coil for the duration of the vape. You will be Shocked that all you change is the wick and all the sudden you get a drastic increase. It's astounding IMO. The chemicals are not present in the finshed product.
#1- the sulfuric acid has a strong affinity to water. Rinsed with water the acid jumps chemical bond with the cellulose to the water molecule easily and automatically.
#2 - carbon disulfide is not present in the finished product when you recieve it.
a. They send it through a cs2 recovery loop
b. cs2 has a half life of 12 days in air. So in 30 days after production *if there was any cs2 remaining on the fiber it would be decomposed and neutral. The post washing process should also remove this. If you have any concern about either of these a rinse/ quick boil/ rinse would remove any post harmless residues.
Anyone care to debate the chemistry?
Realize this thread is less than 1 month old guys & gals. !!!
The end product is pure cellulose, purest wick you've ever TAsted
JeremyR;13362453 said:Rinsing in fresh water is really more than enough to clean it.. Only reason to need to boil is if it was stored somewhere it could have absorbed a scent from the air.

weinner;13368524 said:Well, the old lady dragged my out to Yankee Candle today and sally's was right there, so of course I had to stop in and buy a giant box. I mean, it would have been sacrilegious if I didn't. Then Altsmoke was across the street, so I went over there and picked up some wire, some new flavors, some surprisingly cheap drip tips, and maybe even brainwashed my girlfriend into thinking that we need to have a Manhattan. Then a few people were rebuilding, so I asked if they ever used rayon and the said no and ask what it was. After I got them all jacked about it I told them I just got some and asked if they wanted to try some out. So l come walking in with this giant box and start pulling and pulling it out. Cut it off and said I hope you like it and if you do, it's right across the street at sally's on the cheap. Bye!
JeremyR - we went about this the wrong way. We should have put this in little packets and sold it as super secret custom fiber that wicks and taste better, along side with our super secret custom wire with precious metals for the asteroid belt that gets hotter faster. IT MELTS!
Haha, j/k

stashbldr;13371595 said:Be careful not to use too much, it doesn't need to be REALLY or even tooooo tight. The first one I made I did make it TIGHT, it vaped good but a few hours later it wasn't as good as it was in the beginning. So I removed that wick and wicked a new one but this time didn't make it as thick and tight, made it just thick enough that it rubbed against the coils but with just a tiny bit of resistance against the coils .. I've vaped 12 ml through it since then and it's perfect.
Cuando;13371676 said:I don't think anyone is saying you HAVE to cram the stuff in there. What I believe we are saying is that if you do, it's STILL gonna wick like a fiend, which is pretty incredible.
RadicalM1nd;13371940 said:True, nobody is saying you have to cram it in there.
However, if you're used to the "less is more" strategy from cotton, you will get hot spots using the same amount of Rayon.
When i used my viscose the first time, juiced it up i was suprised by how much it shrank. It ended up not touching the whole coil in there anymore and i got hot spots.
So yeah, dont have to cram it in there, but you do have to use a bit more than with cotton, for sure.
