VIDEO: Easy Battery Wrapping Tutorial

batteries are easy to wrap and knowing how to wrap them is imperative for anyone who uses these Li-ion batteries. Below is the best battery wrapping tutorial video I have found that shows the method properly and isn't unnecessarily long. He doesn't do the best job because he obviously cannot see all the imperfections through his camera setup, but his method is effective as long as you spend more time tan he does shrinking out the imperfections. You may have some small imperfections, but that's life, not all wraps shrink properly all the time. Just get it the best you can. If it just doesn't work out well the first time, take it off and try another wrap. Practice makes perfect.

Important things to note:

  • He says that he "recommends" that you remove the old wrap starting from the bottom. Actually, this is the only way. If you are using a metal object to remove the old wrap, starting at the top with that metal tool means you are risking shorting the battery because the positive and negative are VERY CLOSE at the top of the battery. At the bottom, all you have is negative so there's no way to short the battery.
  • He uses a small heat gun but states that you can use a lighter. I don't recommend a lighter although I have used a lighter with some success in the past. It's too easy to burn the wrap sometimes so it's really a last resort method. A hair dryer is what I use and it works fine for me, however I do have to wear a pair of thick gloves because the heat from the hair dryer does get uncomfortable on the hand holding the battery. Use a glove that grips.
