When Should I Quit Vaping?

Some people start vaping with the goal of weaning themselves off nicotine over a set time period. Others just start vaping and are glad they are off cigarettes. On when to quit vaping - I don't think there is a prescription that will fit everyone. I smoked 40-50 a day. No way I would stop vaping after say, 4 months. I am at 12mg nicotine now with some 6mg and 0mg as well. 8 months off cigarettes, and I'm not rushing to quit vaping. I smoked for over 30 years. I've only been vaping 8 months by comparison.

If your goal is to have an end date to vaping then you can plan it out. I think I'll just know when that time comes. I decreased my nicotine naturally as time went on - I realised I could probably handle lower nicotine so I would try some.
One mistake I've seen some new people make is rushing the quit vaping idea - or not wanting to buy the vaping supplies they need now because they think vaping is going to be short-term. Unfortunately some of those people end up dissatisfied with vaping and take up smoking again.

So vape what you need to, when you need to, for as long as you need to.

I stumbled on your blog quite by accident and I'm so glad that I did. This question has been asked by members of my family so many times that it really frustrates me. I've only been vaping for 3 months but I smoked for over 36 years! I even started a thread in SI forum about it and wondered if any others had similar pressures from family or friends. It should be enough for them that I've totally stopped smoking cigarettes which they had been after me to do for almost the same length of time that I was smoking.

Reading this has helped me to feel so much better. I started at 24mg nic then went down to 18mg after the first couple of weeks. I used 24mg only when I had the initial craving for a few hits, then back to 18. Now I'm not touching 24mg and 18mg is what I start the day with then do 12mg for the rest of the day. Because of pressure to stop vaping from my family, I tried to make myself satisfied with 12mg briefly then 6mg. That didn't work so I'm back up to my am 18mg to 12mg. Trying to lower nic levels because of family opinions has not worked and now I had to basically toughen up and go by my own timeclock. I seem to be adjusting to 12mg and will try to sustain that level for the beginning of this new year. Sorry for going on and on but this blog has really encouraged me to use my own internal clock to go by for lowering my nic levels. I don't see myself stopping vaping any time soon. One thing, I'm loving it so much and smoking cigarettes is no longer part of my life. That I feel happy and proud about even if no one else does. Thanks Kiwivap!

Thanks JoAnn - I believe we know when we're ready to try a lower nic level. And anytime I decrease I always have some of the higher level as well if I decide I need it. I think you are doing fantastic - that's 3 months already, with more to come.
