Finally An Easy Button To Quit Smoking And Start Vaping! My Quit Diary.

There is an ocean of products out there. How do you know who to trust or where to even start. Let's face it we are the pioneers of an undiscovered country. There seems to be two choices: research research research or take the plunge and throw money at the problem until it goes away. If you are frugal like me then the latter is not an option. That is why I am posting this; to save you money in the war against your tobacco addiction.

But where do you start? It's all so confusing. I have always been from the school of thought that believes that a smart monkey doesn't let go of one branch until his hand is firmly planted on the next. I am here to give you that branch.

A little bit of research will reveal that most people think that the EGO style e-cigarette is a good place to start. Perhaps modding is in your future but let's face it you are not likely to go out, concept unproven, and build yourself a professional vaping mod like a Scubagen (Genesis tank Atomizer).

So where to begin? There are 10,001 EGO clones. The European company, Janty, created the original EGO and that cannot be easily ignored. Some say that they hit a little better than the clones. I am here to prove that although they are the original innovator that they are not the big kid on the block any more. Through months of research, while I remained a dedicated smoker sitting on the sidelines, I noticed something. The Janty EGO, although the creator, was expensive and stagnating. I for one didn't want to pay through the teeth for something less than perfect for starting my journey into vaping. I knew all to well what the alternative was; life in hell smoking til I died or got some life-threatening disease that was worse than death. I saw my Grandfather die of COPD and Emphysema and it was a fate worse than death indeed. He smoked Camel Non-Filters. 3 packs a day, in fact, until his 40s when he was diagnosed. He spend the next 20 years hunched over a stool with calloused elbows and slept on the floor. When he rarely left the house for family events he spent his time bent over like a defensive linesman wheezing. When he was 66 he went to the hospital and never came out. I got the call one day that he had died due to fluid buildup in his lungs and it devastated me. Here was a guy who fought in the Korean Conflict for our country, a Marine through and through, laid low by a stupid addiction. I promised my family I'd never be like him. I was wrong. I started smoking at 19. It was stupid. At first it was harmless... a few here a few there. Next thing I realized is that I got extra breaks from working if I took a smoke break. This is where the trouble began. All through college I sought jobs that allowed me to smoke while I worked. It was a recipe for disaster. Next thing you know, here I was, addicted like a complete dumba$$.

For years I told myself I would quit. I tried. I failed. I tried to cut back, switched to lights, tried crappy roll your own tobacco in an effort to hate it until I quit, and I failed.

I always told myself that in my 30's I would quit before I was too old and the damage was irreversible. Well, NOW IS MY TIME!

So, long story short, where do you begin in this vast sea of knowledge yet to be discovered? How can one easily begin their new journey without expending vast amounts of time or monetary resources to find out what they want to know. The answer is: interaction.

A great place to start is the KGO Starter Kit. Why? A simple review of this unit will reveal that it is superior among the proven EGO style e-cigarette clones. An ordinary cigarette-style e-cig will not likely get you to where you want to go. Unfortunate as that is it's time to grow up and get over it. Don't judge a book by its cover. Sure smoking cigarettes is more or less an acceptable vice, and looking like you are doing exactly that is more acceptable, but it's time to shatter the mold.

The KGO system comes with 2 1100mah (milli-amp hour) batteries. These will last the average vaper as much as 11 hours (although probably less in reality). The rule of thumb is that 1 mah = 1 hour. Most EGO style e-cigarettes come with 650mah batteries. This is not enough. Even through the course of a single day you will need to recharge batteries in order to get through. Assuming that the average person sleeps 8 hours a day that leaves 16 waking hours to contend with our stupid addiction to tobacco. The 1100mah batteries can do that! 2 x 650 are not likely to be able to do that. Go big or go home, so they say.

I am a YouTube master. I moonlight as an electronic music composer there (http://www..youtube.com/user/ShogaNinja) (vape to my music!) and it's my go-to place for information in this, The Information Age. Never before has it been easier to learn firsthand that which we need to know. I watched all the popular reviewers night and day for months. I had decided on the T-Rex EGO which, although it LOOKED cool, was inferior to the KGO. After receiving expert reviews, from very experienced veterans (such as GrimmGreen and QCAssociates among others), I decided to look into the KGO. I immediately found out that they stand out for one single reason. Their batteries are stronger than most EGO-style batteries. Under load from a single coil cartomizer they are able to maintain 4 volts. Under a dual cartomizer they are able to sustain a 3.8v output. Everything you will learn suggests that EGOs are 3.7 volt maximum Personal Vaporizers (PVs). This makes the KGO a 3.8-4 volt PV. I realized, finally, that this is a good place to start. Here's proof of the output of a KGO battery vs. an 18650 (which is a battery often used in much more expensive mods. Hint: The KGO wins!) : hoosierecigsupply.com 1100mAh eGo battery whips AW 18650 IMR - YouTube

So where do you get an SLB KGO without getting hosed? Well, GrimmGreen suggested Hoosier E Cig Supply and although Brent (the owner) is a decent guy he is often found without stock. His KGO starter kits come branded (in bright red letters) the name of the company Hoosierecigsupply. I find this feature superfluous and bothersome. I see enough advertisements in the span of a day and it's not like Hoosier created the KGO. Why do I need to see this crap every time I vape? So when I decided to take the plunge to quit smoking and start vaping (being satisfied that months of research were enough and that my choice was finally made) I was saddened to find that hoosierecigsupply only had PINK KGOs in stock. I quickly called Brent (whose number is on his site) and asked him when they would have more in stock. He seemed rather undecided and responded that it would be a few days. I calculated that into my shipping time, thought about smoking for a few more days and what that would cost me, and I said literally "Screw THAT!". I did a Google search. If anyone can help me it's Google right? There's a sea out there and all I have to do is fish! I quickly found another vendor: Dark City Vapor

At first, knowing what was at stake, I approached with caution. Here was a small, relatively unknown supplier in the e-cigarette world who was not a member of the BBB (Better Business Bureau). Would he take my money and laugh? Well a little bit of Google searching later revealed that he was an avid member of ECF and had started his business through his interactions here. Could he possibly screw me over considering that most of his customers came from here? I decided NO. That would be a death sentence to his business.

DarkCityVapor.com's KGO kits come with 5 Standard Resistance XL cartomizers. That means, although not the best vapor producers in the known universe, they are big enough to hold a decent amount of e-juice. Most KGOs come with a standard atomizer and 5 cartridges (which are nigh useless) prefilled with crap e-juice of various strengths. Here the deal was the same price but I got something I was going to have to buy anyway, cartos. Sure, there is the fact that DCV doesn't offer atomizers and that they are worth around 9 bucks for a pair of them. That's a problem! Or is it? On the order screen for the KGO you can add a second set of 5 cartomizers for 4 bucks. Not so bad now, I see. I need cartos! You get your choice of Boge or Smoktech cartos. Through my research I had learned that these are very popular, and often endorsed, cartomizers. I quickly chose the lowest resistance BOGE cartomizers because I had read that they required the least amount of mothering and were the most durable of the two brands. I had heard stories of people re-using BOGEs for 6 months. Now for 48 bucks I was getting something that I would have had to have paid 54 or more for elsewhere. This is starting to be the makings of a deal!

One of the other things that I realized I would have to do on my journey if I intended to vape on a budget is to make my own e-juice. Without an atomizer to drip test my mixes I would be forced to expend a cartomizer to what could be an awful awful flavor. I decided that this was a recipe for disaster. I ended up ordering a 306 Low Resistance Cartomizer with a drip tip in order to test my DIY (Do-It-Yourself) juice before I committed cartos to them. I had heard from GrimmGreen that this was his favorite atomizer that he used most often on his main PV the Silver Bullet.

Hey Shoga

I too have been having a great deal of fun mixing (make a lots of mess and ruined some good flavours too). I am also searching for the perfect all day vape. I bought loads of sweet flavours like vanilla and honey, and they are yummy, but get sickly after 10 minutes vaping. I also have several tobacco flavours which are quite good in the mornings, but i am going off these now as my taste buds are improving. The best I have found so far are the RY flavours. RY4 is quite sweet, so better for evening, and as you go down the numbers they get less sweeter - I am really enjoying an RY2 in the morning and they I switch to RY3 pm and RY4 or vanilla in the evening.

Anyway. Hope all is well with you. I'm on day 17 now and actually quite enjoying not smoking regular cigarettes. I got a 5v USB passthrough delivered today which I really love and i'm using it with a boge standard cart.

Week 3 (Days 18-24):

Been vaping the same old same old, no analogs. I still got a couple left from my pack and they just sit there and rot. Saving up some money for a bigger DIY purchase. I'm going to get a gallon of PG, as many flavors, as many cartos, and as much Nicotine solution as I can afford. I finally killed a KGO battery. It took 3 solid days of vaping. It started blinking a lot and I freaked out and realized that was the dying signal, and so I charged it. It charged fully really fast in like 3 hours. I have yet to convince anyone I know that vaping is better than smoking, but not for lack of trying. Every smoker who hits my KGO coughs like the first time they ever smoked. I mean I feel like it's harsher in the morning and after meals or a long time without vaping but jeez. They never hit it a second time either. They always seem to refuse and then go back to the stinkies. What can you do? I can't save them all I supposed but I'm not giving up. I also want to point out for those of us who are vain that I have received (to my knowledge) 0 dirty or inquisitive looks and no strangers have asked me what's up with my KGO. I also want to point out that I haven't been pulled over by any cops who might think I'm doing something illegal since vaping can look like something different than cigarettes. You get my drift.

I think with my next order I am going to try some different kinds of cartos and maybe even get a tank. Also I am going to look up some DIY recipes and order the ingredients for them this time. The TPA flavors I have only 3 are good out of 9, and the tobacco flavors are so terrible there is nothing I can do with them other than throw them out at this point (maybe I will once I get my next shipment). I'm doing ok with what I got but I'm not exactly loving every second of it. I feel like with my own very basic DIY that I am just getting by. Time to take it to the next level. I still haven't had a chance to build my passthrough yet so I think I'll get a 510 connector and do it up proper. I also want to point out that the syringe I bought from RTS vapes is a gigantic piece of sh&t and it died hard so I am now measuring by eye out of a oral syringe that has no markings smaller than 1ml so I just eye whatever fraction, .2, .5, .8 these are the numbers I often end up doing with my recipes.

Days 26-33:

I crossed over the one month smoke free border, my monthiversary if you will. I have now officially paid for my original investment with the savings of not smoking. I'm feeling fine and everything's cool, but the only thing I was wrong about is how long my original DIY kit would last. Come to find out it's about 2 months tops but maybe even less. I am going to have to invest another chunk to keep going. This buying in bulk thing kind of sucks because I was used to buying cigarettes on a daily basis and as such didn't notice the money disappearing all at once, but now that I know more about what I am doing I am going to be able to make better choice and perhaps I can get my investment to take me a lot further this time.

Also the gold band on my KGO batteries is either tarnishing or wearing off. I can't really tell which. I may try to polish them later to see if I can get that shine to come back and then lacquer them for protection (just the bands, not the rubber lol). I will have to get back with you on that. Already though they are starting to look shabbier, but I never ordered the KGO for a fashion statement. It's a utilitarian powerhouse.

Days 34-40:

I ran out of my all day vapes flavorings and I'm in a personal hell trying to mix up these ridiculously nasty TPA tobacco flavors. I ordered a second batch of flavors, this time getting the bigger bottles of my preferred all day vape flavors. You gotta give it up to TPA though, those 4 oz drams lasted me over a month (2 of them). So these big bottles are going to last forever. It's looking like I could go another 2 weeks or so on my original nic juice (60ml of 100mg PG base), my 120 ml of PG is about 60% gone and I haven't fazed my VG bottle from Walmart for $3.12. I mix at 70/30 pg/vg. Despite the nasty flavors I am forced to deal wit I am still vaping strong. The only thing that sucks about TPA is their delivery time often takes around a week to deliver from San Jose, CA to Ohio. YMMV. Especially with a holiday weekend I probably won't get my package until Tuesday or Wednesday (and I ordered it on Wednesday).

I also ordered more Nic and PG and this time I got some bottles to mix with and some pipettes. My syringe died hard after about 2 and a half weeks so I've been using an oral syringe and measured mixing cup I got for a couple bucks at walmart. It's less accurate but it still works ok. More guesswork though. Pipettes seem like they'd last longer. The tip comes off the plunger on cheap disposable syringes and gets stuck in the shaft forever, no saving it. I tried superglue, and hot glue to try and grab on and get it out to no avail. I also got a turkey baster but I find that cartos get cleaner when I use the oral syringe; better pressure, but harder work. I'm tired of it. Although I've resurrected most of my cartos by cleaning them I am looking to move up to Vision Stardust Clearomizer (CE-4 atomizers) which I found out work well, are cheap, and can be rebuilt. I'll do a review on them when I get some vape time with them. You can learn more about them and how to take them apart for cleaning, and rebuilding at: http://www,youtube.com/user/Estarra

Just hanging in here by a thread until the mailman comes. I'm totally a mail stalker now.

Days 41-56:

Coming up on my 2 monthiversary. No problems other than the flavor shortage a couple weeks ago. My Boge cartomizers are still holding up but after I have cleaned them so much they are starting to look haggard and they last for less time between cleanings as time goes on. I gotta give it up to them for being so durable though but I can tell you right now I am less that pleased with their output after all this time.

I got through the terrible no flavor days and got my new flavors from TPA. Once again besides my two main vapes (Peanut Butter, and Double Chocolate (Clear)) I am pretty disappointed. It seems like if I get lucky I'll get maybe 3-4 out of 10 flavors that are decent from them. I am digging their Black Cherry though so that's a bonus. The rest of their fruit flavors that I got are pretty weak or just taste downright weird. I'll do more research on this matter and get back to you. Next time I am going to order from a different company because TPA is pretty hit or miss and I am not going to pay them to find out the hard way any more.

Today I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the eGo Vision Clearomizers (aka Stardusts) and ordered 4 of them from Altsmoke.com (I used the coupon code FACE10LIKE for 10% off but you have to log in first for it to work). I will let you know what I think about them really soon. Vape strong!

Day 59:

Ok. Not what I expected!

I got my Stardusts today and I was excited for about 10 seconds. I opened the first one up and it smelled funny. I twisted off the included drip tip and it was wet with ejuice. I was like WTF?!?! I took a hit through it without connecting it to my battery and it tasted like 555 tobacco blend ejuice! I took the tip back off and bit the bullet and gave it a taste. Tobacco flavor. Before I opened the other 4 I took a good look at the clearomizers through the package and I noticed the same spots of ejuice in 2 more of them! The 4th one didn't have it so I opened that and that's the one I'm currently using. I sent Altsmoke a little letter so we'll see what happens. I sincerely hope they aren't in the business of reselling used stardusts!

Come to find out the Stardust isn't really compatible with the KGO battery. The draw is so stiff it's like trying to suck a golf ball through a garden hose. Vapor production is there but you really gotta take it slow or you'll give yourself an aneurysm. In order to beat this problem you have to order a 510 Cone Adapter (cheapest I found was on Madvapes for $2.50) which picks the stardust up and lets it breathe.

Once I put my favorite DIY all day vape flavor in it and started hitting it, it tasted like chemical crap! Now that it's semi broken in after vaping it for half the day it's gotten to be an alright vape but really I need to get that adapter before I burst my lungs or pop my brain out through my nose!

On the positive side it's completely silent unlike my Boges which sound like a forest fire when I vape them. Stealth vaping with a stardust is a brand new possibility.

The Stardust itself does NOT leak which is awesome. I was especially sick of accidentally getting juice down the center pipe of my cartos and constantly having to clean my battery terminal. This doesn't happen at all with the Stardust. Because I am used to a snap in drip tip I took the dog for a walk and was holding my KGO upside down the whole time to keep it primed and I had forgotten to screw the drip tip down. By the time I got 2 blocks away I started getting dry hits and I noticed that the tip wasn't screwed in. Kudos for it not falling off in the grass never to be found again but all my juice was gone! 1.6 ml down the drain. I had just filled it before I left. That sucked! Watch out for that.

Initial impression: 2/10
I will post more about it when I can give it a fair shake with the cone adapter.

Days 60-63:

After dealing with Altsmoke concerning their Stardusts smelling like 555 and having residual ejuice in them I was pretty PO'd. We went back and forth and their ticket submission style customer service is slow at best. A few days later, after they doubted my story and asked me to send them back I complained to them that I wasn't going to pay to send them back because I had spent more than enough already. Finally, today after all that back and forth they said forget it and they are sending me 4 more (personally inspected!) Stardusts FOR FREE even though only 3 of them had the liquid in them. I opened one as I said before and it had it and then I noticed that 2 of the other 4 had liquid inside through the unopened packages and I never opened them. The 4th one looked good so I opened it up and have been using it now for a few days and I gotta say, it's getting better. They aren't perfect and you definitely have to get used to them but they aren't that bad. Even with the stiff draw either it gets better over time or you just get used to it. I can't say which. By day 3 after giving it a day off and using my cartos again I came back to it and enjoyed it all day yesterday. Today it's getting a little iffy like I need to clean and dry burn it but we'll see. I literally had to put a couple tanks through (roughly 4ml) it to break it in. I'll continue to add more to this assessment as my experience with them continues to grow. The next step is to get the wick and coil and start rebuilding them myself. I have a feeling that me and the Stardust are going to go through a lot together.

So, in conclusion, Altsmoke still has the cheapest deals on the net for EGO Vision Clearomizers (Stardusts) and although you may deal with some BS in the short term, they will make it right and for that they have my respect. I'm going to go ahead and give them a thumbs up. Don't forget about using the "FACE10LIKE" coupon code for 10% off.

Days 64-74:

Still vaping strong with my stardusts and occasionally I switch up to a carto for ease of draw/more vapor production even though the flavor is inferior.

I ordered some Liquid Nicotine from MyFreedomSmokes.com because they had a massive 30% off nicotine sale and I was running out of PG so I ordered some from them and it took like 4-5 days for me to get my stuff from North Carolina to Ohio with priority mail (that I paid quite a bit for), while DarkCityVapor is in the boonies of North Carolina and it only took 2 days. I would say using DCV as a measuring stick that MFS is very slow. I swear they did an electronic notification that they were bringing the package to the post office but didn't bother to bring it in for a whole day after that. Then when I got my package they screwed up my bottle order. It did come with a nifty little MFS sticker and a crappy pipette that had no measurement indicators on it (fail!). The nicotine had a date on it but the ink was so smeared on my bottle I couldn't read it.... I have no idea if that's a manufacturer's date or an expiration date. We'll be having a little chat with them tomorrow. Maybe I get some more free stuff, you never know. So that makes me 1/3 on perfect orders from mail order ecig supply companies.

I took my now abundant supply of DIY materials and was finally able to mix up a new flavor. I wasn't messing around with my last drops on a flavor I didn't love so as I found my supplies were dwindling I just focused on making Chocolate, Peanut Butter, and Black Cherry flavors which are my all day vapes. Well now I have a new all day vape: GRAPE JUICE from TPA! It's AWESOME!

Anyway, on to Stardusts. Here's what I found out. It seems like when I use a fresh KGO battery that I get more of a burned taste, but when my battery gets down some, that goes away. It makes me wonder if I should be trying their Standard Resistance Stardusts. When I start to re-wick them I will test that theory. The draw is getting a little better. When I was a smoker I often wondered if some people just inhaled or if they used the suction of their mouth to pull a drag (a toke, if you will). I was a toker, personally. When I got my KGO I became an inhaler. Inhaling on a Stardust can be problematic. If you toke it like a pipe it tends to do better and be more pleasant as it defeats the stiff draw that I was not used to with Boge Cartomizers. So that's my thoughts on that.

There are some drawbacks that no one seems to be mentioning. When you tip it upside down, the juice can seep in above the wick and then leak out of the drip tip and into your mouth. Another factor that everyone mentions but no one has so far seemed to pin down is the rapid use of juice. Well, here's what it is. It's not you using the juice, the juice is getting stuck up near the drip tip. If you take the drip tip out the air pressure will bring it back down. Also as the juice sticks to the side from tipping to wick it it will appear as if there is less in the tank as that juice slowly makes its way back down to the rest of the juice. When you pull the drip tip out it will likely be wet with ejuice and then when you put it back in oftentimes it will ooze out at the bottom of the drip tip which is another problem no one seems to be talking about. It's annoying and slightly wasteful but whatever, as far as trade-offs go I can live with it. It's better than dealing with the constant and strenuous cleaning of cartos, boiling, baking... I am so over that.

Other than that, after some minor hangups I have grown to love my stardusts, the fact that they don't dribble into my battery compartment and require constant cleaning as a result. I am looking forward to rebuilding them in the near future and will let you know what I think of that process when I come to that point.

On a completely separate note I am in the process of working with RockinRobbieSF from ECF (Estarra on YouTube) the creator of Lusternia (a popular MUDD (text MMORPG) video game) and I have created a nice intro song for his vaping review channel on YouTube that you can hear right here: The Method and the Madness - Intro Song for Estarra - YouTube
Check it out! I bet you dig it!

I vaped Blu for about a year, but I always had to keep a pack of cigarettes around. Since I got my Kgo, I haven't had any cigarettes! I considered buying some, around the third day, but when I thought about it a while longer, I decided I didn't really want to keep stinking up my hair, my car, my clothes, etc. The Kgo really helped me stop buying cigarettes. The guy that owns a local cigarette shop was in my grocery store, and he said "Hey, where have you been?", "I haven't seen you for a while!" I thought that was pretty cool, a small personal victory.

Totally. I only go to the corner store to get beers at this point and then I vape in their faces and laugh and ask them how does it feel to lose all my money. Then I like to point out how since I make DIY juice and only vape that how it costs me less than 30 cents a day to vape. LOLOLOL. I escaped! I am glad that you did too. Now that I have succeeded this far I am now looking into getting a Vivi Nova (rebuildable tank atomizer) and an EGO Twist Variable Voltage setup for it's sleek size and nice pricing. Recommend you look into that also. Looks, well it doesn't really have those, but it has value and effectiveness in spades.

The reason why is because I hit my KGO for up to 12 seconds for that big cloud and sometimes I am actually able to kill a battery in just one day instead of the 2-3 days it used to take when I was using BOGEs and had just started. Now I use Stardusts and unfortunately I am not pleased with them because of quality control issues (some work great, others don't, some don't even screw the drip tip in any more, there are leaks, etc..) and the fact that I thought I could rebuild them and I cannot even get them apart (they are version 2's) I already broke a perfectly good one trying.

Anyway, best of luck to you. Maybe you get a good idea from what I am posting you.

Days 74-101:

I know it's been a while. I just got a new puppy and she's been wearing me out trying to keep up with her! I know my other dog is finally happy to have her in our family and so is the old lady. I have never seen them happier. Many pictures were taken and many great laughs were had. We're living the good life, and me especially so since I am smoke free!

I have been cruising on these stardusts I got, cleaning them once or week or two at this point but they are problematic. As I replied to bribo54 I have decided that it's time to move up in the world and get myself an EGO Twist Variable Voltage 1000mah battery or two (although I am unsure if my KGO charger will work for them) and then to use a Vivi Nova Tank on them. The batteries are around 30 bucks a piece and can VV with a twist of the bottom of the battery. Check out Estarra's channel for the review on them and the details Estarra - YouTube and be sure to listen to the intro music really well because I am the one who wrote it :) I think you'll like it. You can also visit me at ShogaNinja - YouTube if you want some awesome music to vape to.

Anyway, Estarra will give you the real dirt on the Vivi Nova and the Ego Twist so, in the interest of time, just go watch his vids. The Vivi Nova looks like a dog but it's completely rebuildable and easy to take apart unlike the way these Stardusts are supposed to be, but weren't. Plus they hold more juice. They are about 10 bucks a piece but I don't really see the need to own more than a few and with the ability to rebuild, as long as you don't use citrus based juices in them which can ruin the tanks, they will last forever.

Estarra, by the way, will also show you how to rebuild the Stardust and that same principle can be used to rebuild the Vivi Nova. The process is the same. The cost of wick and nichrome wire (once again, see Estarra for the detail of wire gauge and suggested wicking material/sources) is under 20 bucks for a year's supply or more depending on your mileage. It's a good deal and you will always have a good fresh vape.

In the meantime I am still stuck with vaping on a budget and re-using cleaned Stardusts. I wash them out and shake water in them like a thermometer, dry burn them on a battery until I can see the coil glow red inside and keep going for a 5 second burns for 3-4 times after it starts to glow, then I take a small travel hairdryer and put it halfway over the lip of the stardust (minus the drip tip) and blow dry them until they are bone dry (silicone can withstand oven baking temps of like 500 degrees+ so don't worry you're not going to melt the silicone inside) and then re-use them. I've been doing so for a while now. They are still going strong, more or less. I had one that I put TPA's grape juice flavor in and it cracked the tank clean in half up at the upper metal ring (I think, it could have been just damage in my pocket) but my chocolate, peanut butter flavors are doing best. I have one of blueberry extra flavor and it tastes burned a lot but you can get a few hits off of it at a time before it does.

So that's where I am at. Hope it helps, you reading about my experience. I wish you all the best. See you when something else happens.

Days 102-112:

Not much going on. Still screwing around with my DIY and my Stardusts. Vaping the same old flavors... cleaning up puppy messes. :)

Day 113-122:

I've now crossed over my 4 month mark and I feel by now I have learned a thing or two the hard way.

Up 'til now I have mixed only solitary flavors with The Perfumer's Apprentice. Due to extenuating circumstances I was forced to mix together "junk juice" due to failed stardust issues (heat+fail design). During said process I poured out my used juice from my Stardusts 3:1 ratio double chocolate clear to peanut butter flavor from TPA. The resulting juice I put in a Boge Clearomizer, being as frugal and economic as I am, and the resulting juice tastes not unlike what is sold by the only company I have ever bought commercial e-juice from, darkcityvapor... When I was talking to Bill he would mention that as the juice "steeped" that it would take on a reddish orange tint. Well, after nearly 4 months of making my own juice I can tell you with utmost certainty that the double chocolate clear from TPA turns this selfsame color after it sits for a few days. Originally, I had wanted a juice that was clear and flavorful knowing full well that dark juices killed your atomizers like no one's business. Despite my best efforts to keep them clear the Double Chocolate clear does develop a certain coloring after time and especially in the heat of a stardust or your body heat from your pocket. Outside this environ it does develop color on its own, regardless, though it does take a little longer. Long story short, the more you heat up the combo of Double Chocolate Clear from TPA, the more it changes color and flavor.

So, for the first time ever, I have mixed two flavors together - against my will. Peanut Butter and Double Chocolate (clear) from TPA. Because I received my DIY kit before I ran ouit of commercial juice from DCV I was able to go back once I had some experience vaping and by then the e-juice had turned to crap pretty much. I had to try it anyway, for science. My fave juice from DCV, peanut butter chocolate, started to taste pretty bad. This is the taste I am now experiencing (in a boge 2.0ohm resistance carto for experimental purposes) with my leftover stardust juice. The ratio is 3 to 1 (ish): Double Chocolate Clear to Peanut Butter from Purfumer's Apprentice, in case such knowledge would help you. Enjoy. I am sure Bill would be ...... off but I see it this way... If you are a DIY guy or girl you are always going to be a DIY person. You aren't going to buy his juice no matter what. At least this way you get what he is doing and can work from there.

Tear it up!

Days 122-137:

Not much going on here. Money's tight and I really just want to order an ego twist and some vivi novas but I can't afford it right now. My stardusts officially suck and I hate them. My Boges don't do it for me either they taste like cotton or whatever even though they do produce more vapor than my stardusts. I'm in a vaping limbo right now and I hate it. Sorry to bust out the bad news but I am so tired of stardusts. They have to be cleaned too often, just like a cartomizer, and they produce very little flavor after the first vape or two. Only after not vaping for a while do they seem to have any flavor at all. They are burning up my colorless juice and making it brown, and then they clog. I went through an extreme amount of flavoring to try to get anything out of them whatsoever. Whoever says stardusts are good is lying to you. Maybe they are better on a twist or something but on a KGO they are downright awful. I'm tired of the stiff draw, no flavor, very little vapor, and constant maintenance. Plus if you drop them or carry them around in your pocket you run a serious risk of snapping the tank off at the drip tip metal ring. I've already broken two of them this way. A third is already cracked from a drop.

Days 138-144:

I ran across a few threads that bothered me about Nicotine and I wanted to get a point across to people, but I feel it fell on deaf ears. For me at least, switching to vaping was just that; a switch. Was it hard for me? No. It couldn't have been easier. Do I feel an accomplishment in that when compared to someone who went through a cold turkey quit? Not even slightly. Am I a big bad man compared to that? Not really.

So when I see people all proud of themselves as if some great accomplishment has been made here, I see only the accomplishment of quitting smoking, not becoming a vaper. All you need is money and a tiny bit of determination to do it. It's not a herculean task. When I come across people who expect to vape their entire lives as if that's a safe thing to do, and think nothing of it, it bothers me a lot.

Nicotine is a dangerous toxic substance. It is more dangerous than arsenic. Regardless of biased scientific reports that come out saying that vaping is safe, everywhere I look is signs of danger. From TNAA's, Acrolein in PG, increased chances of spreading of cancer, pancreatic cancer caused by SNUS in the Swedes, the hyperglycemia that nicotine causes. It's all there right in front of us. Knowing this, and a simple irrefutable truth that anything not done in moderation is harmful. Even water can kill you if you drink too much of it. So with this logic I would like to see all vapers eventually quit. No one, I don't care how much a scientist or doctor they think they are can tell me that a vaper is healthier than a non-vaper. That's the whole point of quitting smoking in the first place - to become a non-smoker. That doesn't mean to sit in the Limbo of being a vaper for life, that means complete freedom from nicotine and other harmful chemicals. It means to reduce our chances of getting cancer as far as we can despite the damage we have already done by being smokers. I urge anyone who reads this to consider weaning themselves slowly off of nicotine and eventually vaping once you reach the 0mg of nicotine ejuice. Myself? I decided when I first started that I wouldn't work down the nicotine until I had reached a year of being smoke free and that I would do it one step at a time until I reached 0mg. That is my plan. Do I plan to be a vaper my whole life? Certainly not. I had to learn how to smoke and now I have to learn how to un-smoke, and un-vape. That is what I wanted to impart to anyone who reads this. Do not believe that nicotine is suddenly not toxic because you are vaping it just because you want to. See with a clear mind and open eyes. It's poison. If human beings needed nicotine we'd all be eating tobacco salads.

Another thing that I recently was discussing on the threads is PG and how it creates the biocide Acrolein under heat above 200 degrees fahrenheit (which the coil of your atomizer certainly achieves). The World Health Organization sets the safe oral intake of this biocide at 7.5mg/kg of body weight per day. That's a huge number of mgs. It's not really a concern at least in the short term. I read a thread on making 100% vg juice because it has a much higher flashpoint and although it too can make the same acrolein because it flashes at a higher temperature, the risk is significantly less. I had also discussed with some newbies that 70/30 pg/vg is about as high as you can go safely in most atomizers with the thickness of the juice before you get serious wicking problems. Well, I went ahead and tested that theory and mixed up some 60/40 vg/pg for my Stardust. It tasted phenomenal for about 5 minutes and then it wouldn't vape at all. I kept getting massive leakage into my battery drip well and it would short out my KGO and prevent me from vaping. Not only does it waste a bunch of juice, it simply didn't work. I thought I would post my findings here. Maybe Shoga does know a thing or two. That isn't to say that you can't make 100% vg juice and thin it with distilled water or pure grain alcohol. I am just talking about commercial PG/VG mixes.

Day 145:

After this terrible experience with the 60/40 PG/VG mix I discovered a small crack in my Stardust tank apparently acquired from many droppings upon the ceramic tile in my home. I made a new batch of juice at 80/20 PG/VG to go the opposite direction to see what would be accomplished by such a feat. When I made it, in opposition to all I have been taught up until this point, the flavor was actually lessened, and the vapor seems to have increased. At very least the vapor is the same. I had always been told that PG = flavor and that VG = vapor. So once I cleaned my stardust out and dry burned it and dried it with a hairdryer I tried out this new juice in a "fresh" stardust. I noticed that it was the crack that was causing back pressure in the tank and that was the source of the juice dripping into my drip well of my battery and causing it to short out and produce no vapor. In order to fix this problem I thought on it a great deal. What were my options? Super glue (cyanoacrylate)? No, it's not waterproof and who knows what chemicals could leech through said crack. Hot Glue? Quick fix and waterproof but there are also issues of carcinogens of melted plastic going back through. Silicone like what's on the seams of an aquarium or your bathtub? The fish don't seem to die from exposure to chemicals so this must be the best option, but it incredibly slow to dry (overnight). I decided to take my chances with hot glue for now, because I need my juice. It can be scraped off and re-done with silicone later so it's not a permanent fix. Indeed it did fix it 100% and quite immediately. The leakage into my battery's drip well stopped immediately. I also noticed that once I had solved this problem that I was getting quite the nicotine buzz from the Stardust once again that I have not experienced since my first few days of vaping. So I can conclude from this experiment is that thinner juices seem to operate better than thicker juices in Stardust tanks, that is to say, the more PG and the less VG the better.

Day 149:

I went back to my tried and true 70/30 PG/VG and the flavor sucks lol. I can't win. At least it's working properly again. The hot glue situation didn't truly fix my stardust and I had to re-do it. I got sick of messing with it and my silicone dried up so I couldn't use that. I decided to retire it to the junk parts box instead and bust out a new one. Remember when I bought them from Altsmoke a while back and they had juice residue in them? Well I must have opened one of those because after I cleaned it before I used it (standard operating procedure for me) it still tasted like 555 tobacco flavor. So for the past 24 hours or so I have been vaping 555 peanut butter. It's kinda gross. I even gave the tank a flavor boost of raw flavoring (like .25 mg), didn't help. I can't bust it.

Anyway, tomorrow is my 5 monthiversary so YAY. I guess all that research I did paid off! Here I am, on the positive side as far as money spent vaping, versus what I would have spent had I continued to smoke, and I feel so much better. All the problems that drove me to quit have fairly well disappeared so I got what I wanted. As part of this new information I got with the Ego Twist and the Vivi Nova I did go back and edit my original posts to let people know both what I did back then and how I would do things differently with the latest advances in vaping technology for posterity.

I hope this blog continues to help people find their path in the beginning and I will continue to add to it as I find out things. And if no one reads it, well that sucks, but at least I'll have a full journal of a struggle I undertook in life, how I found the courage to help trailblaze a path where few had gone before, and coming out victorious!

Days 150 - 153:

I started a thread recently that discussed the nicotine health situation since the last one got shut down and lo and behold the same guy who was being a jerk in the first thread came back for a second. Then he started stalking me. I counted in one post he insulted me directly like 6 times. He was an Ultra Member and a veteran. I can't believe that people can remain in this community with attitudes like that when it strictly states in the rules of ECF that you cannot make personal attacks or troll them. I got sick of letting it slide so after about the dozenth time he insulted me I reported him. Maybe he'll get a wake up call or a vacation from ECF. This kind of activity can't be tolerated.

Days 154-158:

A Treatise on Lithium Ion Batteries:

Batteries, like people, are dying since the day they were born. Every time you charge them you will get less and less out of them until they are dead or dangerous. The typical ego battery will withstand about 300 charges. When a battery life reaches 60% of its original capacity it is time to replace it. So if you have 2 ego batteries in use, charging them every other day, you will be getting around 1 year and 8 months out of the pair. If you only had one then it would die in ~10 months. After that the capacity drop off will make your device ineffective.

There are 3 factors that cause batteries to die faster. Keeping them fully charged all the time, charging them too rapidly, and the total number of charges/discharges. Due to the use that is required of them there is no real way to properly take care of an ecig battery so they are pretty much disposable to us. This is why we must take precautions to keep safe. The first step is to get a battery charging bag and always charge your batteries inside of it, maybe even in a metal filing box or cabinet if you have one. This will prevent fire, and the box will prevent it from flying across your room. You can get one here for really cheap: HobbyKing R/C Hobby Store : Lithium Polymer Charge Pack 18x22cm Sack

If you ever need to store your batteries, or they become backups it is best to keep them at around 70% charge for storage. Note that the batteries do drain over time due to the safety circuit that they have. It also tells it to shut off around 3.2 volts on an ego (IIRC) and if you let it drain to 2.7 or below it go into sleep mode and will not allow it to recharge with a charger for safety reasons. If you let the battery drain below 1.5 volts for more than a week DO NOT recharge it. So, in short, it's important in storage to keep them charged but not all the way, and don't let them fully die either. Good luck with that.

One of the most important statistics on a battery is the "C-Rating". Unfortunately almost NONE of the batteries we use reveal this information although. Popular thought is that the most common batteries have a C-Rating of 1. More on this later though.

Days 159-160:

Some cool tips for today!

Rebuilding your atomizers:
I found the cheapest replacement wire for making your own rebuildable atomizers. Free shipping too! You'll want 32awg gauge wire for most applications.
Nichrome Wire

A lot of people have started using cotton wicks instead of the non-flammable silica or ceramic wick varieties. Here's where you can get the much cheaper and better performing cotton wick online:

Amazon.com: Cotton Square Braid Candle Wick - #1/0: Arts, Crafts & Sewing

Make sure you boil it for 15 minutes and let it dry before you attempt to use it. Never let your cotton wick get dry when you are vaping with it or you will burn it. Because it wicks better than the regular wicks we are used to that simply means you must not let your tank run out of juice.

Some people I know have also been using cotton embroidery floss which I am sure you could find at any local craft store. You still have to boil it first.

Here's a video on how to rebuild the Vivi Nova and the new rebuildable Stardust clearomizers:

Every wonder why some ECF members are Ultra Members, others are veterans, why some are Super like me? That's because of their number of posts. I couldn't find any information on this subject so I asked the moderator known as Classwife. She's a really nice lady if you don't get on her bad side. Sucks that she recently lost her parrot. RIP Charlie!

This is what she revealed to me:

Days 161-175:

Still not much going on. Just waiting for some orders to come in. Mailman stalker mode: ENGAGED!

I got yelled at when I went to a nearby zoo recently to stop vaping. This old guy came up and said "Sir, you can't do that here". I said "Do what? I'm not smoking". "I know what you're doing and you can't do that here, it bothers people" was his reply. I told him "Whatever, I'm leaving anyway and I walked 20-30 yards away and continued vaping. I've never been yelled at before in public about it because it seems that nobody knows what the heck e-cigs even are. Totally annoying, but I guess they have to keep up their family friendly appearance.

Days 176-196:

I haven't been writing in my quit diary that much lately because I have been spending so much time writing the Vaper's Handbook which is a blog about vaping from A-Z for beginners and experts. If you haven't been over there yet please take the time to learn something new. This here quit diary was cool while it lasted but it's safe to say that some of the information is not up to date and I realized over a month ago that trying to do two things at once (write a journal and teach) was not the best way to teach people. It's also pretty obvious that I'm never going to smoke again so I've decided I will just keep writing in here from time to time and check in until I hit bigger milestones, such as my 1st vapiversary.

Here's the link to the Vaper's Handbook:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/shoganinja/2998-vapers-handbook.html

Unfortunately I broke one of my backup KGO batteries last night and today I took it apart. I am not an electronics expert or anything but I am of the mind that if it's broke that you can't break it any more so you might as well try and fix it. I have fixed a great many things in my day with this attitude so I gave it a whirl. I have learned a great deal about fixing EGO style batteries when they go bad, as a result, so I will be posting that information in the next couple weeks in my Vaper's Handbook if anyone is interested.
