This poll was inspired by the threads on if cloning is unethical and I was curious how many ECF members actually prefer a more inexpensive clone over the highly priced original PV/APV.

I was thinking about why would someone prefer a clone or original PV.

Generally speaking but with exceptions of course, clone's offer a low cost advantage and high availability while original PV's are higher quality and comes with a higher price tag along with low availability.

A clone would be something that looks similar or a close duplicate like the popular Pinoy mods.

I really don't want to get into a debate over personal and business ethics because it will most likely close this poll/thread. I'm just interested in seeing the poll numbers speak for themselves.

Only post what you like or dislike if you already own that device.

I prefer, "the real deal". In the end it is way better than the other way around.

I definitely prefer the real deal over a clone of anything. Clones are obviously way cheaper and easier to attain but in my experience the quality just isn't there. Clones are a cheap way to really find what you like in a mod. Then once you know, support the original modder

I prefer the original, but as my financial situation is still unresolved, I am grateful we have the choice to save money and still buy nice mods.

I agree. If money is a serious factor better the clone than nothing.

I'm happy as long as the device does what it promises to do with consistency and over a reasonable period of time.

I answered both, but to be fair, I didn't know the Magneto was a clone when I bought it. Does it still count?

If I could afford to I would buy authentic mods, but for the price of one authentic piece, I can buy 5-10 clones

Surprisingly close results! I have to admit, while I've always gone for the real deal for anything in the past, certain reviews on YouTube of clones make it very tempting. Some seem to be 95% as good as the real deal with only slight differences such as finish or sizes. It's becoming quite difficult to find some of the real things such as Trident RDA's here in the UK because they sell so fast, so a quality clone is the next best thing I guess.

I would prefer to support the innovators and be rewarded with fine craftsmanship over mass production (regardless of quality).

China rig as a out and about beater. Real deal at home and fancy occasions.

I answered "Both", but at one point I was 100% clones. Since I made the switch to ePipes I'm mostly originals. There are some chinese made pipes that are somewhat decent, but you just can't beat the handcrafted originals. A tube mod can be easily replicated with machinery, but a handcarved wooden pipe cannot.

In my experience the majority of so called chinese ripoffs are of the same quality and have the same performance as the origanal,and if the original manufacturer didn't price gouge so bad chinese clones wouldn't do so well.

I totally forgot about this thread/poll and wanted to see if anyone's views have changed.

The only thing with clones is that they may need some modification which can be a pain or just plain fun if you like to tinker.

Stalking Fasttech and FocalEcig seem to be a daily thing now. =D
