This is exactly the kind of report we need from all suppliers. It's scientific, not stretches of the imagination, and adds valuable information for all of us. For those who stampeded a panic about vegetable glycerine over in the Health section of the forum, these quotes should be informative:

"Researching the chemical profile for propylene glycol indicates that although there would appear to be ‘no current recognized health hazards’, the chemical is ‘suspected to be a respiratory toxicant’. If Propylene Glycol subsequently becomes ‘recognized as a respiratory toxicant’ following the launch of the product in Europe, then ‘Pillbox 38’ should be looking for an even safer alternative such as Glycerol."

In 'recommendations', there's this:

"7. Recommendations
a) ‘Pillbox 38’ should take a Proactive look at replacing the Propylene Glycol component completely with an alternative such as Glycerol, in the event that the solvent becomes added to the list of respiratory toxicants in the foreseeable future."

And you've got to love these footnotes that address the question of "trust":

"3. Reference to 100 fatal poisonings in Panama resulting from a Chinese factory falsifying records in order to export the cheaper but toxic Diethylene Glycol as the more expensive Glycerol.

"4. Reference to 6000 poisonings in China where powdered milk has been purposely contaminated with the toxic chemical melamine. Melamine is used in industry to make such things as plastics. This chemical makes the milk powder appear to contain more protein than is actually the case."

I have a new motto for Kit's Currency: In Pillbox We Trust.

After smoking 20-30 roll ups a day for nearly 35 years I quit smoking about 8 or 9 month ago but a couple of months after stopping I started getting breathless episodes usually triggered by exercise (not necessarily heavy) and even when I wasn't exerting myself others commented that my breathing sounded heavy. Before Christmas I caught a viral chest infection from hell that left me breathless just going to the toilet and gave me a cough that racked my whole body. The cough has stayed with me till now although it has eased. Anyway, I was feeling so miserable during that period that I started buying the odd 10 pack of the lightest cigarettes on the market (I know - lunacy) which didn't help matters. About a month ago I quit again and my chest and breathing seemed a bit clearer but 17 days ago I bought an evo and I have to say there's been some days (today included) I've felt as wheezy/coughy as when I was smoking tobacco. Reading that post of Bob's on the contents of the contents of e-liquid thread has got me a bit worried. Has anyone else with COPD or anyone you know with it who vapes found it affects their breathing. I'm hoping it's nothing to do with the vaping as I wouldn't like to have to stop.

I smoked for 35 years and mostly roll ups the last 25 years and in the range of 20 to 30 a day.
Some 5 years ago I was diagnosed with a blood clot on the lung.
I gave up smoking then after maybe a year of stopping smoking I had put on weight a lot over 20 stone from 12 stone before giving up smoking.
I was having problems breathing on any type of exercise getting very much out of breath just doing any minor exercise just walking from one room to the next got me out of breath.
After test they found I had an enlarged right sided heart they put me on a course of long term drugs and made it clear I had to lose weight.
Over the next 6 months or so the low fat diet I went on worked and I got down to 16 stone.
However this did not make breathing any better I had the same problems with getting out of breath from the slightest exercise IE walking from one room to the next.
I was sent to a lung clinic for test and from those I was sent to papworth hospital that specialises in heart and lung problems.
After many test I had there I was diagnosed with mild Emphysema and that the blood clot on the lung had finally gone.
Then a little later on I had a E,U.S and informed the enlarged right sided heart had returned to normal.

I went on a lung rehabilitation course which helped to a degree.
However some months after this course my wife contracted breast cancer, then over the next month I took up smoking again.
I continued smoking for about the last 3 years.
Over this time my breathing and getting out of breath got worse as did the coughing.

I stopped smoking on Christmas Day 2008 when I went down with a bad lung infection was too ill to even think about smoking that day.
My wife managed to get me nicotine patches on Boxing Day and I smoked 2 roll ups that day I then smoked 2 roll ups each day 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening along with 1 x 24 mg patch every 24 Hrs until new years eve.
On New Year’s Eve I gave to a friend all my rolling tobacco which was pipe tobacco along with all cig papers and the bags of 6mm filters and 2 friend 6mm cig holders with all the cartons of plastic filters that fit into the holder that I had collected for it.
I then managed with just the 24 mg patches and the nicotine inhalator that I got I think after Boxing Day with no cigarettes.
Also on the 31st Dec I did a searched on eBay for nicotine patches and inhalators, and then some E cigs came up on the search this was the first time ever I had seen one I had never even heard of them before then.
So I found Electronic Cigarettes on the 31st dec and it took until 6th Jan 09 to get one in my hand to use I had been on the 24mg patches and nicotine inhalator (no Cigs) until the E cig arrived.
It came with 24 carts of 18 mg nicotine I had also ordered 1 x 15ML 16mg nicotine bottle tobacco flavour.
I stopped altogether using the patches and the inhalator.
So for about a week I was on 16mg to 18mg nic carts.
I had ordered a 15ml bottle 11mg nic tobacco flavour from e-cig and there was a full sample kit of Johnson creek npg 18mg unopened on eBay that I managed to win bidding for.
So the next couple of weeks I was mixing in the 11 mg liquid in a spare dropper bottle I had from my microscope equipment with other higher nicotine liquids so I was smoking between 11mg to 14mg carts.
I then ordered 1 x 30ml bottle of 0 nicotine npg of Johnson creek from e-cig which I used to mix into the higher nic liquids to dilute them more I guess I was getting 0mg to 10mg nicotine carts.
As I was vaping more 0 nicotine carts a day than the nicotine added carts I bought more 0 nicotine 15ml bottles 1 cashacola and 1 regular tobacco from e-cig.
I was then down to having 2 to 3 hits a day of nicotine at around 6mg mixed liquids the rest of the time 0 nicotine.
Today I received 1 x 30ml bottle of 0 nicotine Marlboro from totally wicked, I still have a mixture of bottles of 0 nicotine and mixtures in the small sample bottles mixed up liquids some 0 nic some up to 6 mg nic and 1 15ml bottle half full (7ml) of mixed liquids maybe around 6 to 8 mg nicotine.
Altogether I have about 12 mls mixed liquids left of up to 8mg nicotine to dilute with the 0 nic liquids I have.
My aim now is to use up what nicotine I have left by diluting sometimes in the 0 nicotine liquids I have and hopefully never buy any more nicotine based liquids again.
Then it is a case of getting off the vaping.

Ok I know hell of a long winded reply.

since e cig vaping,
My getting out of breath has not yet improved but has not got worse, but then I still have not got around to a regular exercise regime yet.
As to coughing there is a major improvement.
I feel much less groggy/unwell when I wake up from a sleep or nap.
Over all I feel improvements in many little things.
So over all I would say that the E cig vaping is a huge benefit and helped me a lot.
I am nearly off nicotine and then my aim is to get totally off E Cig vaping.

I was actually thinking of starting a new thread about this and was wondering how it was effecting other people with this disease?
I just have been vaping for a day now and it seems to hurt my lungs. I usually cough a lot at night and in the morning but last night was worse than ever. I coughed so bad I (don't want to say what happened). wetness. Put it that way. I thought I would cough up a piece of my lung. I hope this isn't from the ecig because I was and am excited about the aspect of it all as far as my COPD. I wish someone else with the disease that has been vaping longer would have some input here. Maybe if we start a thread about it?

I did mention that I have emphysema so you could say that this falls into COPD.

WHAT DOES COPD MEAN?
Well it stands for Chronic (that means it progresses slowly) Obstructive (that means it causes narrowing of the airways in your lungs making it more difficult to breathe) Pulmonary (that means a disease of the lungs) Disease (obvious!). Hence "COPD"!
So does COPD cover just emphysema? Unfortunately no – COPD also covers chronic bronchitis, asthmatic bronchitis and other airways diseases. But it does not cover lung cancer.

I have been vaping E Cigs for around 2 months now the first few days I did get some coughing but adjusted the amount and speed I inhaled I also think some getting use to inhaling vapor is needed even when switching directly from Cigarettes to E Cigs.

I would also bear in mind that if you where smoking and just stopped and changed over too E cigs then the coughing may also be part of clearing the lungs the same as if stopped smoking the body and lung works on trying to clear itself of the crap taken in from smoking.

Something else also to think about is what sort of COPD you have and which type it is IE if emphysema then is it, mild, medium or servere, or is it chronic bronchitis or asthmatic bronchitis or other type or a mixture of some of them together, this may make a huge difference to how e cig Vaping effects you.

Stylopora, you have my sympathies. You sound a lot worse than me. I feel as though this disease has struck me overnight. Prior to stopping smoking 9 month ago I did have the ocassional breathless episode but they were so wide apart and I recovered from them so quickly (usually just had to cut back on the smoking for a while) that I assumed they were just asthma attacks. The doctor even tried to tell me it was nothing more than panic attacks (which I knew was bs) and the respiratory hospital said there wasn't that much wrong with my breathing tests. How unlike this time when they told me my lung capacity was only 40% of average for my age. Yet, before Christmas, 4 mornings a week, I was up in the morning doing press ups, sit ups, a bullworker routine and going for a 1 km jog folowed by a 30 minute walk. How do I go from that to getting breathless going to the bog? I feel as though they just think "smoker, in his 50's, peg in hole, not worth bothering about". It's a pity these vaporisers weren't around even 10 years ago as I feel I might have been spared this (assuming they're not contributing to my current breathlessness).

giamarisa, the first few days I did have a a sore throat and coughed a lot more than I do now. I usually have a drink of water after each vape now and my throat's nothing like as bad. As you say, what we need is someone with copd who's been vaping for a while to put our minds at rest.

Some people have said that their lung capacity and breathing have improved a lot since starting vaping. That might be because of quitting smoking.

My lung capacity and breathing has improved a lot, however I put that down mostly to stopping the smoking of tabacco at this early stage of 2 months.

One of our forum members, Dr Loi, says that he suspects propylene glycol helps to clean lungs out. He thinks that it helps us to cough up bad stuff.

I tend too agree with this, and over the longer term this is where maybe vaping helps more than just giving up and not vaping.

It's a pity these vaporisers weren't around even 10 years ago as I feel I might have been spared this (assuming they're not contributing to my current breathlessness).

Yes Ted I wish I had found E cigs when they first started to sell online, I know that was not early enough to prevent the problems i have had but would have improved the last 3 years for me.
I am somewhat supprised I did not come across it earlier as I did a lot of research into different kinds of cigarette filters.

I used to put a Dutch forum through the google translator. I just checked and it seems I joined in October 2007 (how time flies). I did buy a Sedansa at the time but the look of it put me off and I found the light spray of juice I'd get in my mouth with every inhilation a bit sickening. Wish I'd persevered now.

No COPD here, but I'd like to share anyway, regarding the coughing. I never was a heavy smoker (and I still have maybe 4 or 5 analogs a day) , so not much difference for myself, but my fiancee smoked 2 packs a day. He found e-cigs by accident on a google search or ebay (i forget which) and tried them, and soon found that he just didn't have the desire to smoke analogs, even though his intention wasn't to quit. In the first month or so, he had lots of morning "smokers cough," hacking up-- at the risk of sounding really gross-- chunks of stuff. After that, the cough subsided, no smoker's cough. I'm not a doctor, but I can only assume that it was the body's way of getting rid of some of the garbage now that it wasn't being constantly barraged with cigarette smoke.

Thanks for sharing that MissJaaxx. My worry is that I was off the smokes for about 12 days before I started vaping and felt I was breathing easier and my chest felt clearer towards the end of those twelve days than it does now. It may be nothing to do with vaping though as I've been up and down like a yo-yo for the last 6 weeks.

breakfastchef, I think a doctor's the last person I'd ask. What we were hoping was that someone who's had breathing difficulties would tell us how they've got on vaping. Mind you, maybe they're all dead. 8-o

That is fine, Adik Ted, but I come from a family where my father was a physician. If you can turn your physician onto e-cigs as a reasonable therapy for your condition, you have a very good chance to, perhaps, get some finannial assistnce from you health insurance carrier. Never hurts to give it a go. I plan to introduce my primary care physician to e-cigs in his office during my six month check up this Spring. I expect he will be blown away and ask more questions than I probably could answer. This thing is truly a blessing (if you believe in such things) and needs to be considered as a viable nicotine replacement therapy device. Despite all the caterwalling about losing the fun benefits of e-smoking if it ever comes under the control of government agencies, I say that I am fine with that, as long as I can vape and avoid the detrimental effects of analogs. By perscription or personal choice, these things are changing my life. Just ask my wife!

The best a doctor could ever say is that vaping is 'probably' better than smoking tobacco and a lot of them already are....but they are unlikely to actually recommend it.

We are our own Guinea-pigs, taking our own risk.. and that's why this forum is so important, it's great for us to let each other know if we are feeling 'any' good or bad effects from vaping. Unfortunately I haven't got a clue how to let anyone know if I have died!!......:(

I know you mean this in jest Pete but I genuinely get worried about some people who disappear. There have been a couple of overdose/hospital cases where the posters didn't come back. They probably were just put off vaping but how would we know?

Well it was a jest Kate....but perhaps we should all have a note on our desks saying something to the effect that in event of our death please notify the e-cigarette forum of the cause!!

Although I suppose if anyone did die from an overdose of nicotine......it would be something that would get headline news.

I was kinda thinking about something like this, not to be morbid. . . Is there a way to track people who haven't been heard from? Mods have our e-mail addresses, right? I don't know what's in the realm of acceptable respect for privacy on forums.

It would just be nice to know: Returned to analogs, quit for good, vaping but not posting, etc. I have a "contact", my sister knows I post here and would drop a line in the unlikely event of an unfortunate incident, related or not. FWIW

I tend to agree with Pete's comment about doctors breakfastchef. I'm in the UK where we thankfully don't have to worry about health insurance but chemists over here have just started stocking the nicocig so there's an outside chance they'll be available free one day (a one off course of nicotine patches/gum are already free, as is the drug champix). Hopefully that will set an example for your regulators. Thanks for the post.

Cass the peson that wrote the thread Kate listed is very much a live and still wrting book. I thought well that is one person i can check on.

People just fall away and don't wish to tell us about it. Some people just don't have time for forums. There are lots of reason peole leave the forums. i really don't think they OD and died or gave up from OD. I just easeir to grab a analog than mess with VP for some people.
