I find myself wondering thusly...

  • The sigelei 20 Watt is a nice device.
  • It has a fixed length tube suitable for 18650s.
  • It has an input current requirement of 10A.
  • I have AW IMR 18490 1100mAh batteries, which have a maximum output of 16A.
  • AW IMR 18650 2000mAh batteries would not supply enough current.
  • AW IMR 18650 1600mAh batteries would cost another £20 and only give me 500mAh extra.
  • The charger I keep at work won't take 18650s.

So....
Can anyone see any reason why I shouldn't make a little 15mm widget to fit between the battery negative and the bottom spring to allow me to use 18490s instead of 18650s?

...or in fact, does anyone know of an 18490 tube for the 20W?

Thanks. Unfortunately they don't ship to the UK. Maybe they have something against the British. There's another link here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...elei-20w-anyone-else-have-2.html#post12938208 to Varitube.
It's $8 + $12 shipping, and it won't accept my credit card. I'll try again later as it says, it could be that it doesn't like foreign credit cards; I've come across that before. If necessary there are a couple of addresses in the US or Canada I can get it sent to.

You're more than welcome to send them to me. I'll gladly send them along to you so long as you cover the postage.

:)

While I try to work out how to order the tube:

Those are Euro cents; US cents or UK pennies would be too big. The wire is tinned copper of course, not Kanthal. :) It's just about the right size and seems to work OK.

Thanks for your advice, everyone.

ETA: I've just ordered the 18500 and 18350 tubes from Le Petit Vapoteur (.com), all in French. That was an adventure. :D

And here they are, with a little camera magic.

I'd have to be a bit careful with the 18350 tube; 20W will almost certainly over-stress a battery that small, but with what I was paying for postage it seemed pointless not to get the set.

Even in 18350 mode you're fine.

The lowest atty the 20W can fire is .65Ω (.6Ω according to the specs, but it has been confirmed that it can't fire a coil that low), the max amperage is 5.5A. If you use the Efest Purple batteries, you have 5A of headroom at 20W.

Even if we use the more conservative .6Ω, you're still only pulling 5.8A.
