Yes folks I have done the impossible. I have quit nicotine in it's entirety and it has almost been two weeks. I have used nicotine offf and on regularly since I was 16 (I am 33 now). On May 22 I had my last vape. At this time I was constantly hitting on my PV at 12mg nicotine. Here's how it all happened:
I just became a registered nurse and am currently looking for a job. For some reason here in Ohio there are very few nursing jobs to be had and almost all the hospitals I am applying at are saying that they will not hire nicotine users period. This includes gum, patches, etc. So I started freaking out. I thought about going nic free and still vaping but then I got a burr up my .... and decided to see how long I could go without vaping. I put my KGo away and forged ahead.
Now I'll admit the first 48 hours weren't the easiest but it was no way as hard as when I had gone cold turkey with cigarettes. Not even close. There was a decent urge that there was something missing and that I wanted to do but it wasn't a craving that I couldn't distract myself from. With the help of smart phone games such as words with friends and soduku I was able to distract myself when the cravings hit. The weirdest thing was waking up for the first few nights in the middle of the night with cravings but I didn't give in. I did chew a lot of gum to keep my mouth occupied...I found cinnamon flavor works the best. I say the first 48 hours were the worst and after I made it though that time the cravings disappeared almost entirely and while I still have the automatic reflex of reaching for my PV the wanting to vape goes away quickly and I almost never even think about it. I gave my vaping supplies to my boyfriend who still vapes and I have no problem being around. It's not like when you quit smoking and are around smokers and you want to rip the cigarette out of their hand. The only time I thought of vaping when I am around him is when he asks me to fetch him a new battery and I am reminded of what a pain the ... it really is (still better than smoking though).
I am so greatful for the e-cig to get me to quit smoking I am even more greatful that it allowed me to go nicotine free by not putting any extra addictive ingrediants in the juice to make it almost impossible to quit. I am so glad I started vaping as I would still be smoking today.
Now the physical: While my breathing improved dramatically after I quit smoking I can tell my breathing is even better after quitting vaping. One thing I have noticed is that the ball of phlegm I had in the back of my throat when I vaped is no longer there and my stamina for physical activity is vastly improving still. I can definitely tell a change for the better.
