I'm going to assume they'll be scanning them, even with just an x-ray batteries are pretty easy to pick out.

Yes but it is VERY hard to tell what kind of battery is in them though...

There is all sorts of 'banned items' that make it out though... I have had care packages from VFWs come filled with nothing but contraband... and ou bet your @$$ we enjoyed every bit of those 'illicit' goods.... everything from booze, tobacco, porn, BACON, and more.... I'll never forget seeing one guy hand out pork rinds to the iraqi kids who would throw rocks at us till they went away...

I got tired of waiting to see if the ban would ever lift, so decided to order my Provari and accessories anyway. Here are my findings. Hope it helps someone.
1. I ordered it to my local (German) address. They shipped it via USPS anyway, and it said "flashlight with batteries" right there on the customs form. (They understated the amount, too. $80 instead of $350.)
2. They do NOT ship it with the battery installed. The batteries come packed separately.
3. You can go to your local customs office on post to get a form so you can pick it up from the German customs tax free. You need a copy of your email invoice.
4. DO NOT ORDER NICOTINE LIQUID WITH THE BATTERIES!!! This is where everything failed with me. The US customs didn't want to issue a form without an email from the Germans, and the Germans wouldn't accept an emailed form. I ended up just paying the taxes because the time I was spending wasn't worth it. Had I not had nicotine on the invoice, the form would have been no problem.
5. Hindsight is 20/20, as they say, but what I would do now if I had to do everything over again is order everything to my APO address except the batteries. The batteries I would mail to my German address, and just pay the tax to avoid all of the other hassle.
