Nice to meet you too Sue! I'm sorry you've had a rough couple of months. We had a rough couple of weeks about a year and a half ago, we lost two of our dogs to illness within two weeks of each other. Boy oh, was that a horrible month! We got another weim for the same reason you're thinking of getting another dog. Our remaining dog had NEVER been without another dog as a companion his entire life. I was so sad to watch his confusion. Adding that second led to the third, because while the second kept the first company the first wasn't high enough energy for the second. The third has enough energy for the first, second, myself and my husband combined. 
So happy you've decided to rescue, I think that's a wonderful thing. Rescue people are my heros.
One of the dogs we lost at that time was a rescue. Man was she a lot of work, but I'm so happy we gave her a better life for as long as she was with us.
