It's because the wicking can't keep up with the power from the battery. You will have to experiment to see how long you can take a puff without burning. A freshly charged battery will be hotter and will burn wicks faster than a battery you have used for awhile.

If you can manage to get your hands on a variable voltage or variable wattage battery you can turn the heat up/down to what works best. That will make it easier to avoid burned wicks.

Once the wick is burned the taste won't go away until you clean/dry burn the coil and wick. :( Also, clean wicks may need a bit of break in time to wick most efficiently.

Congrats on getting the EVOD Twist! Having variable power will allow you to control the temperature of your vape. Start at the lowest setting and dial up a little at a time and see how it vapes. If you dial too high and the flavor fades or starts to taste a bit burnt dial back the power a little until you have the optimum setting for flavor and vapor production.

The ideal voltage power setting will be different if the oHms of the juice delivery devices are different. Also, some flavors taste best at lower power while others need higher temperatures to shine.

The VAMO is generally a reliable device other than the threads on the ones Fasttech sells tend to be on the delicate side. You can make the threads last longer by using these adapters, 510 to 510 adapter and 510 to eGo adapter.

The menu system on the ZMAX V3 Telescopic Variable Volt/Watt Mod isn't nearly as friendly as the VAMO but you might want to consider it as it doesn't seem to have the issue with the threads that the Fasttech VAMOs do.

Fasttech sells Nitecore battery chargers. Those will work just fine to safely charge batteries for the VAMO or ZMAX.

I don't know what to tell you about batteries. DHL recently has refused to ship e-cig batteries on their planes which has made shipment of batteries from China very difficult. There is also a huge problem of counterfeit batteries from China. You need 18650 IMR or hybrid batteries like Panasonic makes. Efest and AW make 18350 IMR batteries which are shorter but their charge doesn't last as long. Using 10 amp batteries is more than enough power for the VAMO or ZMAX.

Baditude has some blogged some excellent e-cig battery info that is more than worth a read.

Orbtronic is an extremely reliable U.S. battery vendor that only sells high quality batteries. They do international shipping but you must contact them first. Orbtronic knows their stuff so you will be fine with whatever batteries they recommend for the device you decide to order. These are batteries that can be used in flashlights so you should be OK with customs.

Hi! Peraspera,
Yah The EVOD i got had aluminum or alloy sort of connectors/threads and not SS.
Didn't like the finish of it. so gave it to somebody.
I am perfectly Happy! with me i go 4/GT-1. I refill twice a day and can't complain so far. It doesn't produce huge vapor clouds as seen in youtube but yeah as long it gives me good feel and taste i'm happy with it. And i've learnt the way i should hit at it so that it does not taste burnt.
Happy vaping :)

HI! Peraspera,
And one more thing instead of going for mods with external batteries where i can't buy batteries! cause of shipping problems and the rist involved in using cheap batteries...
I've seen this battery: 1) $23.53 eGo-V V3 Mega Variable Volt/Watt 1300mAh Battery - 3.0-6.0V / 3.0-15.0W / w/ USB passthrough at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping or 2) $23.66 eGo-V V4 Variable Volt/Watt 1300mAh Battery - 3.0-6.0V / 3.0-15.0W at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping
can you please suggest.

Hi! Marty,
Thank you for writing. Well to tell you, i am just a newbee to vaping. i or my friends havn't crossed borders with one of there so to tell you haven't had non of the experience. I heard that people are using the e-cigs here n there ocasionally. as for the view of the authority you can google the subject you will get some details through new papers. and if you want to try out you can bring in along a make do type of set along, so even if it gets seized then no pains.

As far as I am concerned i am back to analogs, why? cause all my MT3 head stock coils are crap/burnt/getting burnt in a day. (I really don't know whats happening) hence I am trying to get a roll of kanthal/nichrome so that i can try n build coils and see if thats the problem!!

Till then C U all
Happy Vaping!!

Hi Asmili, I transit through the UAE, Qatar and Bahrain with work. Could you you please expand on the 'ban'. Are they just illegal to sell or are you flat out not allowed to use them. I'd hate to have mine confiscated.

Hi!
Thank you for writing! and encouraging!
But here its difficult to do that. Hence sorry to say i am back to stinkies. sad!! I can feel the difference. my mouth used to be so hydrated and lips so moist during vaping. no cough, no pain anywhere, no bad breath. and so many other things which i can't explain. yah most of all don't have to go out of office or home to smoke every half an hour in the heat.
So now i am searching for kanthal/nichrome wire to build coils and cotton wicks and see if it all works well. i dont know i see so many entries here everyday with this subject 'burnt taste' why is there no permanent solution found for this so far, after all these years. so that people like us can covert other stinkie smokers after we are sure of that. if this happens then the conversion rate will be rapid and huge.
more things i noticed
1)i noticed among the stinkie smokers is that they are not aware of presence of nic in the juice. some of them threw the sets away at the first few drags only. that is due to lack of information.
2) some people would not be able to afford these kits (cheaper ones will not last, thus they'll end up smoking) cause the stinkies are cheap and they can afford them. on the longer run as they lack knowledge and information. they will end up smoking.
3) People who can afford will not go through all this pain of trial/error experience (Not all) some will say; when i smoke i will smoke or else quit, why in-between? does that bring back all my health, will that heal? And i don't want to do all this replacing heads, cleaning, dry burning, building coils....they don't know what they are missing!!! there hands simply reach to a pack of stickies.
4) This is going through an evolution i don't know when it will be the right time to hit the "Silver fire Button" again without any hassles. But there will be a time...how long??
Regards...
Happy Vaping Till then....

Welcome to ECF! I hope you can find what you need to keep yourself off the stinkies!

Marty163,

A friend (Mr F) had his e-cig confiscated at Qatar airport. They were about to toss it in the bin when he convinced them to give him a receipt and allow him to collect it on his way back out the airport 3 days after he landed. That was some time about 8 months ago.

A different friend (Mr R) and I both had identical experiences at Dubai airport. They scanned our luggage after we got off the conveyer belt and immediately recognised the e-cig in the x-ray image. If you tell them it's just for personal use, they let you go with a warning that it's not allowed.

These are cases where people were entering the country though, not sure what would happen if you were only transiting.
