I think it was a perfectly reasonable request. They offered a solution that allowed you to keep vaping, while at the same time accommodated their customers who would have been bothered (and some certainly might have, regardless of "right" or "wrong").

Certainly better than "Put those away, you can't use those here" IMHO.

I totally agree but I'm still a little confused, your saying the smokers were outside by the front door or inside ?

I just follow the policy of the place I am in. I have been used to being exiled as a smoker for so long that it doesn't bother me to be asked to go outside to vape. I am friends with a local bar owner (who smokes) and he doesn't allow vaping in his bar because as soon as a smoker sees someone vaping they think they can light up and he got tired of arguing with people about it so banned vaping too. It just makes his life easier and we all go outside, if the cigarette smoke bothers me I step further away. I figure I spent many a year making non smokers walk through my stinky smoke so who am I to complain!

I generally ask, the landlord of my local pub is happy for me to vape at the bar but out of respect for others I DO NOT blow huge clounds. I'll usually stick my RDA on my sigelei 100w+ and just turn it down so i'm just blowing out a thin vapour. If i want to blow clouds I'll go out the back to do so although the landlord has had me show a few guys the size of the clouds inside XD

I'm not frequenting establishments that are not willing to accommodate me.

This !!

I usually go to smoking venues anyway, so I have never been asked to stop vaping.

But, should that happen, I would comply with the request. On the other hand, before leaving, I would politely explain to the owner why I would not return there.

I've had enough of the "smoker's stigma", thankyouverymuch. A simple sign at the door, clearly stating that "no smoking inside, but vaping allowed", should remove the "problem" of smokers lighting up because they just saw a vaper.

And while I can understand that when/if that happens, it can be a nuissance for the owner to deal with, owners must also understand that removing themselves from the trouble of adressing a "problem" that is clearly explained by the sign at the door, can, and will, lead to a loss of business. That's why I would clearly explain exactly why I would not return there. If many vapers started doing this, maybe owners would realize they are the ones losing business by not allowing vaping at a bar, for example, when there are no "childrun" around.

And this is NOT about "growing up", or "having a tantrum" because I cannot have my vape while I have a drink, and "why can't I just wait a little to go vape outside". This is simply about SUPPORTING businesses that are willing to accept us.

For the very same reason, many years ago, I simply stopped going to places that have forbade smoking. If I wanted to smoke while having my beer, I WOULD do it, simply on a different venue that allowed it.

I treat vaping just the same :)

Michigan's "No Smoking" laws extended to bars/restaurants many years ago, (before I started vaping) so I usually don't even bother, since most places (right or wrong) simply see vaping as another form of smoking. Just about the only places that DO allow it are vape shops. Casinos are exempted too (They're technically on "Indian Reservation" land, so state law doesn't apply)

Yet every Michigan bar I vape in has absolutely no problem with it. Bars here took a pretty hard hit from the smoking ban and the places I frequent, very much welcome it.

Maryland has long outlawed smoking in bars, but at the moment it appears to be ok (legally).

I vape in at least 3 different local bars, and never had a problem. I've had a couple of people make snide remarks about how it's bad for me, but no one has ever complained about actually being bothered by it. I usually vape a banana cream or strawberry cream I DIY and I always get compliments about how good it smells, especially from the bartenders (the most important people!).

I was recently in a bar, where I sit and vape several times a week. There was a bartender I'd never seen before, so I don't think she works often. I was vaping as usual, with no problem. I was using my usual Provari with a Mutation X, with about a 1.3R single coil, and I go out of my way not to blow clouds, being as stealthy as possible. And I usually dial it down to about 3.2V from my usual 4V.

A guy comes in and sits down next to me. He's got a high wattage box mod, I think he was running 30W or more, with a dripper. He blows a huge cloud up in the air and asks the bartender if he can vape. She says no, and then something like not if that is what you are going to do.

I keep on vaping, my usual stealthy way. And I ask the guy why he doesn't dial it back. Well, he says he can't, his sub-ohm coil needs the power. So I ask him why he doesn't have a higher ohm setup for public vaping, like in bars. And I get all sorts of excuses.

So I keep on vaping, my way, with no problem from that bartender. And he can't.

And I shake my head... you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. There is a moral to this story, I think.

Sooner than later I won't be able to vape in those bars (due to new ordinances, not owner policies). When that happens they WILL lose most of my business. It's not a principle, it's just that I have been spending more time in bars and restaurants lately. I got out of the habit when I was a smoker and my cigs were given the boot. There is just something about sitting at a bar and enjoying a smoke (now a vape, I no longer smoke). Or having a cig after dinner, the same way other people can enjoy an after dinner drink. Without going out in sub-freezing weather to do it. But there aren't enough me's to matter, and so on...

At my local bar the bartenders vape so its no big deal.

I don't ask to vape when I go places (Just like I don't ask about my concealed weapon carry)

Dont want it? Dont like it? Put up a sign so I can be sure not to spend any money there

Cant tell you how many times I have left a resturant/gas station/etc because they had a No CCW sign in the window

They have thier rights, I have mine

I think there is still some "grey areas" with some places when it comes to vaping in public. I'm in NJ and I always as the bartender or manager if its okay. Most of the time they are fine about it since they feel there is no smell, no big deal.

At times though, I do feel a little weird as I'm usually the only one at the bar doing it, I don't get stares or nothing, but its usually just me (I guess I'm the only one with the guts to ask, I mean what's the worst they can say..No!) but any bar & grill I go to, I always ask if its okay.

But I think that since there are no exact "rules" for vaping in bars and restaurants, I did have some staff say they really don't know if I could or not, but said well if we can't smell it or its not irritating anybody else, go ahead.
