When making Clapton wire for Clapton coils I find that using a fly tying bobbin makes for a neat and easy way to control and feed your outer wire.

i have some that i made a little while back and for the tube part of it i used cotton swab(cotton buds)the plastic tube, i have a few made and the best ones for getting a really tight snug clapton are the ones that have a slit worn into the end where the wire has been running against it out of the end on a sharp angle, once you have a slit formed you can sit the the tube against the side of the core wire that you are going to clapton and it rides itself along the length, you can clapton onto some real thin wire this way aswell.
