It's creepy.
Add Verizon to the creepy data collector club.
They're in good company with Google and Apple, I suppose...

Someday, I think a lot of people may learn the hard way that they've given access to information that should have been kept private. Or maybe not - maybe things will change slowly, and by the time this stuff starts happening, the users (victims) will just accept it as normal...

But this accumulation of data really does have some potentially dramatic repercussions.

  • Your health insurance company will know if you buy cigarettes. Or Nicotine, I suppose.
  • Your car insurance company will know ALL your driving habits and rate you based on it (this is happening now, but for now it's voluntary)
  • An employer or potential employer could gain access to your social media posts. See who your friends are. Where you go and when. Scan your prescriptions, maybe. That's not supposed to happen with medical info...but a lot of it's out there...
  • Stores can analyze your buying habits and may not only advertise, but PRICE things accordingly.
So yeah - I agree - your backup service has no business with access to your actual calls and your camera. that's BS. Personally, I'd try to disable "Cloud" and get a separate simple backup service if I could...

Hello Everyone :)

:offtopic:I need to rant for a second :pop:

I got Verizon for my cell phone provider. And they got their version of the Apple iCloud called Verizon cloud

First of all I understand that the cloud has to have access to things like contacts and phone logs to back them up.
But why does it have to be able to modify phone state and directly call phone numbers.
I know it can prevent my phone from sleeping so it can back it up, but that is different from modify phone state.
It can also view network connections and receive data from Internet, they not only can track what I am looking at, but they can track my location with this.
It can Read, Edit, & Receive your text messages (SMS) and your MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service)
It also can Send SMS text messages.

Now all that might be necessary for a back up but yesterday they came out with an Update.
Here are the two things they added,
Access to Camera to take Pictures and Video

They also got rid of the Video folder and put the videos in with your pictures to make it even harder to find a pic or vid.
I'm guessing they did this to give people something to complain about and take their minds off the fact they just gave some complete stranger access to watch and record them
I wouldn't be surprised if they undo this and separate the pics and vids in the next update.

Access to Camera to take Pictures and Video

Is it just me

or does anyone else think this just ain't right

Surveillance is everywhere. No point in fighting it. If a government wants to track me, they have better means than just my mobile.
The hotel I stay at in Prague has surveillance like a casino, because politicians, sports figures, recording artists..stay there . There was one trip a few years ago where I went on a dating spree and would take a different lady or two to dinner or lunch at the hotel restaurant, then drinks at the bar, then to my room. This went on all week. All of this was recorded. If I had any kind of sensitive or public job, they would have so much leverage on me. As it is, my buddy and fixer in Prague works night reception/security and said the guys at the hotel got a kick out of seeing all the ladies. I should get my buddy to put together a highlight reel from every trip...

There has to come a time when the people say, "enough is enough!" Will the population ever wake up from their gadget induced Soma Holiday and realize that we are being corralled, herded and scrutinized on a level never before witnessed in the history of civilization? The right to privacy is pretty much non-existent in our current world.

Convenience trumps privacy. When I land at Amsterdam I never know what gate my connecting flight is, but I get a message from Delta telling me. On the flight to Prague I use the WiFi to check to make sure by suitcase is on the plane through the Delta app and baggage tracker feature. The hotel is tracking the flight to make sure the driver gets there on time so I don't have to wait if the plane is early. When I'm out and about in Prague and I need a taxi in a hurry I can use the AAA Radio Taxi app, press a button and it sends one to me based on my location through location services and GPS. I can never be lost for long, no matter where I am at.
On return I can avoid long lines at immigration and customs because of Global entry, which required a background check, interview and biometric data. Convenience is a wonderful thing...

Or a terrible thing, depending on how it is being used.

True, but the reality of it is I'm not a spy, a subversive, a terrorist plotting world domination, a criminal... I just like having fun. no point in stressing out over things which are out of my control...

Umm, actually unless you're married or the girls were prostitutes, they'd have nothing on you... and if prostitution is legal where you were, they'd still have nothing on you, unless they were underage...

It doesn't look good to always be with a lot of different women, even if they aren't underage or prostitutes.

There was a tricky situation last trip. I was having a final fling with friends while Sandra was in Germany and Nikola was in my room resting, as we had been out until 6 AM that day and didn't get any sleep. It was early evening and I had a date with my friend Lucie. We had a few drinks at the lobby bar- she doesn't drink so she had milkshakes and me beer, then dinner at the hotel restaurant, then to my backup room. She had to leave after a few hours, as she has a couple children, so I sent her off in a hotel car to her car- she drives to a metro station on the outside of the center and takes the metro in, but doesn't like taking it at night. We said goodbye then I went back to my room to see if Nikola was ready to go out for dinner then dancing...

That would be me, chocolate milkshakes and Percocet's! But all you're getting out of me, big boy, is my phone number! And I don't dance... :pervy:

They make wonderful milkshakes at the hotel lobby bar. Lucie loves them so much she always has 2, plus honey cake, plus a full dinner. she's maybe 115 lbs, so I don't know where it goes...
My friends Denisa and Janey- the bartenders, found it quite amusing Nikola was in my room and I was entertaining Lucie downstairs...

Maybe she has a hollow leg...

I always get my milkshakes without the whip cream. Since I've been vaping, I've gotten away from milkshakes. I always automatically order a water and Diet Coke, to hydrate and take my vitamins, and forget about the shakes. I need to change that.

Johnson Creek's Royal Truffle tonight. They replaced their Chocolate with Royale Truffle and Golden Truffle. To bad, I always thought their chocolate tasted like chocolate tobacco and was my favorite chocolate juice. I don't care for the replacements.
