How can you SAY such a thing? The smell wafting up from the Subway grates, on a "warm" August afternoon, is something that can be experienced ONLY in New York City.

@jwbnyc - I was correct. That WAS the story that Ronnie told me, although it actually predated him by two years. It is the stuff legends are made of though (as you know). And it was last August that held told it to me (he also reminded me which stools we sat on at the bar, and what the waitresses name was that day).
I remembered that it was on a Saturday. That's pretty much it.
We had some laughs, so thanks for the shove.
