The "They just called ecigs .. Tobacco !!" shaming thread - post links to the screw ups here.

OK. It is fair to discuss vaping and question it's safety ... vaping is new ... and more research is needed to help create the safest e-cigs out there. I have no problem with that.

But to say vaping has tobacco in it ? Makes me want to pull out my hair.
C'mon. That's not even trying.

I am hoping this thread will help educate people that e-cigs are not "another" tobacco product .. mostly because they well don't have tobacco in them. Pretty simple.

So here is my example ....

Nicotine Promotes Cardiovascular Disease, Benefits of Smoke-Free Products Questioned

It is an older article. Maybe News Agencies and the American Lung Association don't make this mistake anymore ? Not sure.

If you see this mistake somewhere .. try to get them fix the error ... and post a link here !

There's a worse problem here than just calling e-cigs a tobacco product. It's attempting to lie that nicotine causes heart disease. Here's a link to what those clowns eventually published:

Vascul Pharmacol. 2013 Jan;58(1-2):87-97. doi: 10.1016/j.vph.2012.08.003. Epub 2012 Aug 23.

But they admitted, "However, in the absence of PKC activation, nicotine treatment alone had no apparent effect on the organization of actin stress fibers and focal adhesions in unstimulated (control) A7r5 cells."

So I did a little searching.

It turns out that cytomegalovirus doesn't need PKC to do those things.

So, it's another example of how they ignore the role of infection to falsely blame smoking for diseases caused by infection.

This could rapidly become the longest thread on ECF

It's important to know this, because they'll be trying to lie that nicotine in e-cigs causes heart disease. Meanwhile, practically nobody knows that cytomegalovirus is the single largest known cause of heart disease, which the anti-smokers ignore in order to blame smoking for its effects. Just in case anybody hasn't seen these:

"[T]he most striking finding of Simanek et al.'s study is that the relatively modest OR of CVD associated with CMV infection translates into an estimate of the population attributable risk or attributable fraction of CVD of ∼ 40%... What is striking about this 40% attributable fraction estimate is the implication that eliminating CMV infection would prevent as many CVD cases as the complete removal of smoking and almost twice as many as the elimination of either hypercholesterolaemia or hypertension from the population." (Commentary: Understanding the pathophysiology of poverty. FJ Nieto. Int J Epidemiol 2009 Jun;38(3):787-790.)

Persistent pathogens linking socioeconomic position and cardiovascular disease in the US. AM Simanek, JB Dowd, AE Aiello. Int J Epidemiol 2009 Jun;38(3):775-87.
Persistent pathogens linking socioeconomic position and cardiovascular disease in the US

And the vitally important thing this study couldn't evaluate is the age at which people were infected. An earlier age at infection, for socioeconomic reasons, would account for an earlier onset of heart disease, such as the anti-smokers blame on smoking.

No mention of vaping, but related misinformation - Michigan State University shows they're similarly confused, or attempting to confuse, before continuing their article with a Nicotine Replacement Therapy endorsement:

Nicotine facts,

  • Nicotine addiction is the second-leading cause of death worldwide.
  • According to Medscape cigarette smoking kills more than 440,000 Americans each year, with an estimated 49,000 of these deaths from exposure to secondhand smoke.

Here's an even better one:

Human cytomegalovirus-induced reduction of extracellular matrix proteins in vascular smooth muscle cell cultures: a pathomechanism in vasculopathies?

Abstract
Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infection appears to be linked to the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. An association between HCMV infection and an enhanced restenosis rate as well as the induction of vasculopathies after solid organ transplantation has been documented. Knowledge of the cellular and molecular basis of these findings is limited, however. By Northern blot and RT-PCR analysis of human foreskin fibroblasts (HFF) and human coronary artery smooth muscle cells (SMC), we identified extracellular matrix (ECM) genes that were downregulated after HCMV infection, including collagen typeI and fibronectin. Quantitative immunoassays showed a significant reduction of soluble collagen type I and fibronectin proteins in supernatants of both cell types. This was shown to be a direct effect of HCMV infection and not due to a response to interferons released from infected cells, since neutralization of alpha and beta interferon activity could not block virus-induced downregulation of matrix proteins. As the amount of ECM depends on both synthesis and degradation, we also assessed the influence of HCMV on the activity of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP). Interestingly, a significant difference in virus-induced matrix degradation could be shown between the two cell types. HCMV upregulated MMP-2 protein and activity in SMC but not in HFF. Thus, HCMV infection of SMC reduces ECM dramatically by inducing two independent mechanisms that influence synthesis as well as degradation of ECM. These may represent molecular mechanisms for HCMV-induced pathogenesis of inflammatory vasculopathies and may facilitate dissemination of HCMV by promoting the detachment of infected cells in vivo.

I also heard that some cheats, trying to avoid petroleum regulations and gasoline taxes, came up with electric cars. Fortunately glorious government figured out that they still need to employ some plastic parts, at least as wire insulators, and could deem said cars as "petroleum products" nevertheless.

Eat that, tax cheats!

And you can't fool us on air pollution either! You still make fumes at the factory! Not to speak of the formaldehyde in that "new car smell"! Children under 18 will not be allowed in cars newer than 10 years!

Also passengers on front seat(s) will need a valid driving license, since they look like driving.
