If you are married, an awesome tactic to buy more stuff is to rent a motorcycle for the day and come home and tell the wife you bought it. She'll freak out over the expense and the danger and then you can sigh and say "Ok, I'll return it and just get a couple of new mods." It works great unless your wife is turned on by motorcycles. Emotional manipulation and compromise are the backbones of a healthy marriage.
Musicians have a similar affliction called G.A.S. which stands for Gear Acquisition Syndrome.
