mosfet question

About to build my first box, want to build a single 18650 unregulated mosfet box. Will this mosfet work?

And will this limit the range of resistance that i can build? I usually stay around .3 or .4 ohms.

Due to its relatively high resistance, that MOSFET can't handle much current without overheating. The IRLB3034 is a much better choice and in stock at Mouser.

The data sheet indicates it is in its safe operating area at up to something like 90 Amps DC at 4V drain to source voltage. It should do for any mod build I've ever seen. That would be 360 Watts less the circuit losses.

It will reach its max operating temperature at about 28A though without heat sinking. And with the MOSFET wrapped in heat shrink, in an enclosed space, near a warm atty and batteries, that's about the highest I would want to assume it can handle. Even when pulsed.

alright, so gate to switch, source to negative battery, drain to negative atty, possitive battery to other side of switch, 15k ohm resistor from gate to source, and positive battery to center positive atty????

Use the aluminum box as a heat sink.

I wasn't planning on using a aluminum box, i was actually going to make a box using resin.

The IRLB3034 is widely accepted as a decent mosfet for modding. You should really aim at at least double the spec of the fet to keep it nice and happy.
