If there were any businesses nearby, you may want to check and see if any of them have surveillance cameras that may have caught him on tape. Had a similar incident last year here where the guy ran through the alley behind one of our stores and our back door camera had a clear image of his face. The chances of recovering cash are probably pretty slim but you could at least make his life miserable for awhile and hopefully prevent it from happening to someone else.
Hate that that happened to you, not many things worse than a thief.
