It really has nothing to do with a better memory or math skills.
I heartily disagree with that as well. It's ALL about memory and math skills, for those who are card-counting in their heads. Way beyond my abilities even though I'm in the top one percentile on those counts.

I know some people who mathematically would be quick enough to be able to recognize the few situations when the odds would actually be in their favor, including one or two who CLAIM to have an overall winning record at blackjack, but I don't take their claims at face value.

Card counting is not cheating, even though casinos treat it that way. Card counting is determining what the odds are at any given time with any given hand, based on what cards have already appeared and therefore, what cards remain to be dealt.

I dont know if it'll help anybody here but, I too have Type 2 diabetes. I take 1 metformin every morning and evening. I also am on Victoza, 1 shot daily. It is great stuff. Doesn't replace insulin for those who really need it but, if your only using a little bit of insulin like I was, ask your doctor about it. Damn, I sound like one of those stupid commercials. My A1C has been 5 or under since I started it and I eat any damn thing I want. Probably should eat better but, it's working really well. :)
I am also on metformin twice daily, but nothing else. I hope I remember this if the situation arises.

I was working the graveyard shift at a motel. A man came up to the desk and asked how to find a prostitute in that town. :-x That wasn't in my job description. I can only imagine the expression on my face.
I had the same experience in an unfortunate three year period. I said something on the order of "Heck if I know!" If he had looked at my face, he would have understood I meant "Do I look like a pimp, or something". Dealing with the late night public in a motel with "lounge" attached can be a useful education in public relations.

Yep we love this show and this is the final season. Can't imagine living like this must've been nice if you were on the right side. The rich one.

.........dealers have always had to hit a soft 17 and stand on a hard 17.

I've never played blackjack much, have never been to a casino, and may get nailed for asking this - but...

What's the difference between a soft 17 and a hard one?

The ace can be counted as either 1 or 11. Any combination which equals 6 + ace = soft 17....because it can be counted as 7 or 17. If you lay a 10 or face card on it...it's a hard 17....only way it can be counted. So.....any combination that can only be counted as 17 is hard. ......soft when it can be counted either way. Any time you have an ace with another card ...it's a soft hand.....;)

ie. 5+2+Ace = soft 18...........4+2+Ace = soft 17......even black jack or 21 is a soft hand....any face card or 10 + Ace = black jack...;)

Had a panic attack with the state health assistance people today. They were trying to tell me that I am getting twice the social security benefits that I am getting. What are they trying to do, give me a heart attack? Chain vaping. Of course, by the time I actually spoke to a person, I had talked myself out of a temper tantrum. But I did tell her where my emotions had been.
Hope they got it straightened out and all is well!

Those are the ones on Tapacrap.

I feel slightly compelled to add to the commentary regarding the Martin guitar destroyed in the Tarantino film .. while it is unfortunate that an accident like this happened, it pales in comparison to Brandon Lee being killed by a "prop gun" ..

In fact, the guitar was in storage prior to the loaning out for the film .. The guitar in question is not actually particularly rare, excellent examples are readily available and are not priceless nor irreplaceable, and was, in fact, insured for more than replacement value ::

1870 Martin 0-28 > Guitars : Acoustic - The Music Emporium

Martin 0-28 1870s

There are modern Martins made after the year 2000 that are worth substantially more ..

Martin D-50 Koa Deluxe | Reverb

What will happen here is the Martin Company gains a huge free publicity boost and will soon have a new display at the Museum in Nazareth, PA, using the kindling and a nice sign that says "1870's Martin Destroyed by Kurt Russell during the Filming of "The Hateful Eight" " .. which will become as interesting as any other display ..

I'm not trying to take away from the loss of this instrument and it's small role as a piece of Martin history, however, had it been owned and played by Willie Nelson, Elvis, Hank Williams, etc .. the words priceless and irreplaceable would hold true ..

Thanks. Nice to have a different perspective on the situation.

The best pointer I ever give anyone is to go with the idea that you have x amount of money to spend on entertainment.....to look at it in that way only, and quit when you've spent it. ;)

You're wrong about odds being better because of fewer decks. It doesn't matter at all unless you are counting cards.....and then the more decks... the longer the running count....puts it in favor of the card counter. It's a simple plus- minus system with a plus....minus....or zero being assigned to each card .....which you have to memorize ahead of time. There are inexpensive books with the system in it. In fact the AC newspaper used to publish the basics of it on a regular basis.... Card counters are frowned on in the casinos.....they all have their own count teams to watch and count down whenever they suspect someone is doing it.

As to playing...generally you can double down on 10 or 11. Some casinos allow 9 as well....not a good bet. Split pairs.....best are A's, 7's, 8's, or sometimes 9's. You are allowed to split any pair, but never split 10's ....other players will question your intelligence if you do...

Always hit any hand that is below 10 as well as a soft 17 until you either make it hard or you have a hand that's somewhere between a hard 12 and 17. You have the choice of whether to take another, possibly breaking card or stand. Most people will take a chance on hitting a hard 12....

And there you have a very basic rudimentary of Black Jack or 21...:)

And this is why I just watch! Can't remember what I did 5 minutes ago let alone remember a card count.

I'll be using a modified version of that philosophy. I'm going to take a bunch of shirts. Back in the day, The Golden Nugget in AC used to have nickel slot machines. It's my understanding that Circus Circus, where I'll be staying, has some of the lowest-stakes slot machines in Vegas.

Tomorrow's the big day!! Jup, I am easily amused at times.....but I love these

Very entertaining and amusing. I've left the window open on YouTube so that I can watch Part 2 when I've recovered from Part 1.
